A Long Long Time...No See

A long long time ago...I was consistent with posting here on this blog.

But alas, the galaxy moves on, but not forever! That's right, like a questionable sequel I will return! I have been spending so much time cheating on you all with YouTube I know, but it's because things over here just have got to change. I want to feel free to use this space more like a journal again, put up some different posts, essays even maybe, or reviews, or just rambles. Of course I need to get back to taking outfit photos more often too, so hopefully more of those will be coming soon as well.

Thank you all for hanging in there. Here is my latest very themed lookbook from over on my channel, I hope you enjoy it and have a Happy new Year!

A Vintage Style Gothic Lookbook // Happy Halloween!

I know I juuuust put up the Slytherin look book, but I still wanted to put up this other long planned short for Halloween! I created several outfits combining my favorite vintage styles into darker more gothic ensembles, and I even pulled out an old Edwardian gown of mine from my oft forgotten historic costuming closet :)

I had originally planned to put up the Slytherin video earlier in the month which would have made these back to back look books less, well, back to back, but my schedule got all sorts of delayed this month with building my new set. Now I am ready for a serious breather, and to get back to some sewing next week instead!

I hope you all have a wonderful Halloween!

Vintage Slytherin Style Lookbook!

After several days of learning how to use power tools, spent covered in wood glue and paint, out having a rummage through the dried flowers and plants outside, and racing through a few last minute sewing projects just to torture myself a bit for good measure, the Slytherin house inspired lookbook is here!

Oddly enough, I think I could have made even more moody black and green ensembles from the items in my closet, but I am saving a few for another video I will struggle to finish on time for Halloween ;)

The set behind me here, the large green wall, is actually 3 theater "flats" which are false walls build for stage shows and the like. One by threes and plywood, and foam trim cut into wainscoting and glued in place for the full "mansion wall" effect. I pained it an absinthe/minty inspired green this first time, but this set is about to preform many many transformations over the next few months! I knew buying new colors of curtains for my usual set up every time I wanted a change was going to get expensive, so I figured better to invest that money into a real set I could change up dramatically with just a new lick of paint. Now of course I have to make a false floor to pair with it, as the rug solution isn't the best. Back to the home improvement place for some laminate wood flooring in darkest brown to match all future endeavors...

I hope you enjoy these October ready more gothic inspired vintage looks, thank you for watching!

Back to Nature

Another dress I documented making this summer! Find the video of that below. For it's first outing I paired it with simple dark brown leather accessories and a little wooden leaping antelope brooch.

I was originally going to add pockets to this dress, but I think when it comes to 1950's inspired styles I just prefer them more simple and streamlined. As much as I often love 50's pockets, collars, and shirtwaist styles, they just don't work for my personal style. They feel too "housewife" for me and even though it's a super cute look, it just ins't me. So no pockets in the end, just simple sateen in a huge circle skirt!

Belt, Jewelry, & Handba: Vintage (Etsy)

Adventure Style : Vintage Style for Travel, Safari, & Exploration

I present to you my favorite style in the summer time, that's right, it's adventure style! Safari style, adventure wear, whatever you call it, I call it a darn cute look. So enjoy this excess of khaki and cotton twill and I can finally move onto my next adventure!

The script at the very beginning is from the radio loop played outside of the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland :)

It was a wild ride indeed, but the video is finally done. Two weeks of entire days spent making faux wooden crates, over $100 dollars spent on craft paint alone, four hours to film the final footage, and thirteen hours of editing and script writing, and here we are. I need a nap :)

It would mean extra special much to me if those of you who enjoyed this video could share it with someone else you think may like it as well.

I put this in a pinned comment as well, but I also want to suggest that any of those in a place to do so please consider donating to Unicef and/or Save The Children to help with their ongoing and emergency work in Sudan. Stay aware of the goings on in our wide world, please practice empathy, and stay safe out there.

Fiber & Fabric Basics : Textiles 101 for Retro Shoppers & Seamstresses

I know many of us longtime seamstresses and retro gals know quite a bit about textiles, but I wanted to make a video for people who are newer to vintage collecting or sewing who may not have much background textiles knowledge! So here I am down in my sewing room going over the basics of fibers and fabrics, and mis-remembering what paco-vicuna alpaca's are :)

My Summer Sewing Plans - VIDEO

Long time, no sew, you know what I mean?

Hopefully I can change that with this more assignment based strategy! By turning my sewing into part of my video schedule, I hope I can hold myself a bit more accountable to my plans this summer. How is your summer sewing plan coming along? What project is at the top of your own to be sewn list?

A Very Retro Thrift Haul - Video

I recently spent a full day adventuring to several thrift shops and these were the spoils that I came away with! Lots of blouses/shirts from this day, but two dresses as well and I never seem to find dresses so I was surprised. I hope you enjoy the video, I'm excited to get back out there in a few weeks and hopefully find more vintage appropriate items out there in the wilds :)

My Full Vintage Glove Collection! - Video

Well this video took me all week to complete! Nine hours to film, two full days to edit, what an ordeal. It is my fault for having so many pairs in my collection ;) I hope you all enjoy this rather "extra" installment of my regular series collections management where I model all of my vintage gloves. I now know how many I actually have...which is a bit embarrassing but oh well!

Wearing & Collecting Vintage Gloves

While I may not be an expert of gloves through the ages, I do love collecting them now and wearing them as you all see often here on the 'ol blog. I decided to collect my glove knowledge and opinions into one video over on my channel, and boy did this video come out quite long!! Oops! I hope anyone who has ever been curious about some basic glove etiquette and knowledge enjoys this video nonetheless!

My Top 6 Vintage Style Wardrobe Essentials

As I have been sharing my own outfits and style online for a while now, many people have asked me for a list of items they should buy when starting out with vintage style. I have never quite been able to answer such questions, as I always feel each persons individual unique style is so very different that I would be unable to answer such a thing for someone else. After years of waffling, I finally decided to answer this sort of query in my own way, and I hope you all enjoy the video :)

How I Hide My Bangs - A Retro Hair Tutorial

Now that I have worked out how to hide my bangs and get my hair looking essentially like it did before I cut in bangs I am left wondering...why didn't I get bangs ages ago! Who knew such an "extreme" hair cut for me (short bangs and an undercut in the back) could still work so well with vintage hair-styling! Which is all to say, this is how I have been styling my hair lately :)

Thrifted & Vintage Haul Video - What I Picked up on my Last Thrifting Trip!

Well, after a rough start to my day last Friday, including finding out I am going to owe twice what I thought in taxes and my old faithful car finally dying out on me, I finally got over to my favorite Arc for a little thifting to turn my day around. I was happy to find a few things (for cheap...because if I was on a budget before....well now...damn) that were on my mental wishlist or just fun finds.

I hope you are well, I have to go get back to writing now!

A Few Winter Outfits

Hello there! Seeing as I am not leaving the house much these days, I made a little lookbook video showing some outfit I would be wearing if I had to ;) I hope to style some more looks and make more videos like this one soon.

I'm also still obsessed with eye makeup, so here is a new video from my new-ish beauty channel too!

Wearing Vintage Style To Work? My Thoughts and Advice

While unfortunately I don't wear my usual vintage style to my day job myself, not only because I am required to wear the uniform t-shirts, but also because working in production I don't want to ruin my clothes, I made a video discussing my thoughts on the subject all the same! So tell me, do you wear vintage to work?
