Forties Florals

Not forties floral prints, no I'm talking about floral dress clips and silk flowers on hats! Though I certainly adore 1940s floral prints too, I'd love to get my hands on some one day. Also if anyone has lots of capitol just sitting around and wants to fund a reproduction rayon and cotton fabrics business I am happy to run it, just an idea ;)

This basic 1940's cold rayon dress in crisp black took me ages to make, but feels so worth it now as it is such a joy to wear. It has already featured here on the blog once before back in late May, and you can expect it will return later in the fall/winter too as it is just so versatile! I think this is one of my favorite silhouettes to wear, the puffed sleeves and stronger shoulder really balances out my curvier shape. This time I paired it with my black suede belt, grass green Bait sandal pumps, new marcasite dress clips, and the big black straw hat I bought myself for Christmas last year! I just love this hat, I am a straw hat fiend, and this one has got wonderful textures and fun purple flowers! I have a black and purple floral rayon in my stash just waiting to be turned into another dress to wear with this hat!

I hope you all had a most relaxing and enjoyable weekend, I spent most of mine sewing but that's no surprise is it!

Dress: Made by me
Shoes: Bait Footwear (Modcloth)
Clutch, Hat, Belt, Jewelry: Vintage

  2. I love the way this gorgeous 40s LBD showcases your accessories so beautifully! Your taste in hats is superb, in fact it was your collection that recently inspired me to finally take the plunge and buy the 40s hats in my Etsy watch list :P

  3. LOVE this dress! You're so right; it's fantastically flattering on you! Is this vintage cold rayon fabric? If not, where did you find it?!

    1. Thank you Emileigh! It is actually modern rayon fabric, or possibly 80s/90s deadstock as the fabric shop I purchased it at has been open a very long time and has no system at all of inventory management. The place is called Allyns Bridal Fabrics and is a local Denver fabric shop. This rayon was however one of the most expensive fabrics I have ever purchased at $19 a yard!

  4. That is lovely. I like the green clips - something different from the usual white metal/diamante.

    1. Thank you Nora! I would also love for me to go into business! It's definitely a dream of mine. This is actually one of the priciest sewing projects/dresses I have made in a long while as the fancy rayon was $19 a yard! I really wish nice vintage-ish rayons were more accessible, I'll add that to the business plan ;)

  6. Those dress clips! That (amazing!) hat! Those shoes! The dress itself!!! All so elegant, beautiful and perfectly harmonized together here. I'm in love with your classic black frock and happily look forward to you sharing it with us again (hopefully) many a time.
