Yes, that's right, finally finished! I have been working on this one dress for weeks! The amazing silky rayon was tedious to work with but a joy to wear. I worked slowly, taking my time with each step and binding the interior seams with rayon seam binding. I am not a patient person, and am a very impatient seamstress, so I am so ridiculously pleased this project is finished! Now I can finally move onto making other things, and I do have oh so many things on my list to make!
I really wanted to finish this dress to wear it with this fabulous flower topped straw hat I found over the winter. When I ordered it I thought it was much smaller but it turned out to be larger and even more HAT (you know, capital H hat) than I thought I'd be! It was so fun to wear, even if it is a hard hat to store. The other debuts I designed this dress around include my wonderful two toned Garnet's from Remix shoes, and the ivory celluloid dress clips. I wanted a dress with a higher sweetheart neckline just so that I could wear it with dress clips! I plan on making some matching fabric bows to wear pinned on too, in addition to hunting down a pair of rhinestone dress clips for more fancy occasions!
Next on my sewing project list is a classic black circle skirt and I can't wait to start as it will be a breeze compared to this fussy rayon! Worth it in the end? I suppose so, it would be good to have a basic LBD for each era!
I hope you all have a great start to the week :)

ReplyDeleteThank you Tanith! I originally wanted a different neckline but the pattern wasn't working, in the end I am happy with how it all turned out :)

Thank you Carla! I needed some detail on such a simple dress so I'm glad you like the little tucks :)
DeleteAh, the little black dress is so classic. Lovely job on this, the little pleats at the shoulders and ivory dress clips are a nice touch. I just picked up a pair of green dress clips at a flea market that could be Bakelite but I need to test them.

DeleteWhat a perfect hat for blossom season, it is absolutely divine, I would love to find something similar! This is such an elegant dress, I love how it looks as a day dress but I can definitely picture it worn as evening wear with rhinestone dress clips or a fur stole for that noir vixen look.
ReplyDeleteThank you Harlow! It was a lucky find on etsy for sure :) I'm glad you think the dress will work for evening too as that's just why I chose such a lovely fussy rayon so that it would be appropriate for night time too!
DeleteThis dress is amazing and looks great on you. You've done a great job ;)
