Paint It Black

An old favorite dress, I wear it all the time even here on the blog, but seen here with a few new accessories. The gorgeous black suede shoes are from Royal Vintage Shoes fall collection, the same as the last pair I sported in carnelian, the Alice's, only in classic black this time. Just as comfortable and perfectly practical too in such a reliable color. I couldn't pass up the black, and I may just end up going back for the brown...

Also new are the velvet belt (asos) and vintage velvet gloves. I was very happy to find these gloves since I wear black velvet in one form or another quite a lot, particularly in fall and winter of course. This pair are rayon and only have the velvet on the back of the hand. I'd love an elbow length set as well, and have added a few to my wishlist. I'd like another black rayon 1940's dress too...has anyone tried the Robert Kaufman brand black rayon crepe? If so, do report on it's opacity and weight below if you would!

Currently, as the song goes, I have to turn my head until my darkness goes. I think the lesson of the last few weeks is: do not stop writing. If I pause writing for more than a few days I really do start to paint it black. Clearly I didn't need a break from writing work, I needed to dive in! I'm trying my best to clear my schedule for doing one thing and one thing only next weekend. Too bad it's only Monday right?

Dress: Made by me
Handbag, Brooch, Earrings, Hat, & Gloves: Vintage
Shoes: Royal Vintage Shoes
Belt: ASOS

  1. We are so used to seeing you accessorise with pops of colour - which is always lovely - that it's unusual to see you in all black. But this outfit just works magically. I adore every element of it! Karen x

  2. Keep on writing! I hope it all goes really well for you. Don't let the glums get you. (I have a case of the glums right now; one of my magazines is closing. I should be being assigned to another, but I loved this one and it's hard to see something you love making fail.)

    1. Thank you Mim! Sorry about the magazine, keeping magazines going now must be very difficult! The glums have got me good currently but I'm fighting through :)

  3. All-black looks so chic! Those shoes are fabulous. I'm very tempted by the brand but it's a bit pricey with international shipping. X

    1. Thank you Porcelina! I know Revival Retro in the UK carries some of the styles https://www.revival-retro.com/collections/royal-vintage-shoes-uk-stockist which may have better shipping rates for you. I feel the same way with all the lovely repro brands based in the UK, or like Emmy Design sweaters, so nice, so pricey, and then with international shipping too risky!

  4. I am absolutely loving the velvet accents of this outfit! It really adds an elegant undertone to the whole thing!
