Vintage Spring Style Inspiration

Well sure, Spring doesn't start until March 20th on the US calendar, but since all us seamstresses need time to create our new spring wardrobes I figure now is a good time to get inspired! I never limit my sewing or wardrobe to one specific era, preferring to jump around twentieth century fashions. Some 1930's floaty chiffon's one day, structured 1950's suits the next I say! I have been pinning spring fashions for weeks now, and already have a stack of lovely fabrics waiting to become cheery spring frocks. I thought today I'd share some of the images that are inspiring me for this upcoming spring :)

Is anyone else dreaming of spring already? I just can't help it, I want to break out the florals and straw hats!

  1. I'm dreaming of linen 20s dresses, and floaty sheer blouses. Although the linen is more likely to happen - I LIVE in linen in the summer.

And I keep trying to pull my berets back out, when it's currently snowing and "feels like 15F" due to the crazy winds. I'm done with heavy winter layers!

    1. I just finished my first linen sewing project, a linen and rayon blend skirt! I love the look and feel of linen but hate all those wrinkles! We're having a break from the snow here and it is giving me time to dream...but it will be back before Spring breaks, it snows as late as May here!

  2. That would be a resoundingly giant yes to everything here from me, too - especially the strongly Bar Suit inspired ensembles (my single favourite vintage look of all time). Thank you for sharing this bevy of loveliness with us, sweet dear!

    Tons of hugs,
    ♥ Jessica

  4. I love all these dresses, especially the 1930s ones! I can imagine that 1930s frocks in chiffon would be really cute and perfect for the warmer months.

Hopefully spring will come quickly; here in England the weather is crazy, as some days we can sit outside and eat ice cream as it is a mild day, and a few days later it's snowing!

For my spring wardrobe I'm going vintage-inspired, with a 1940s beach outfit and a 1920s sailor dress for my holiday in America. I can't settle on a particular era, really, as I love them all. :)

    1. The floaty floral 30's dresses are calling my name too, I just need to find some nice fabric so I can make one :)

English weather may be crazy, but English manor houses and castles...and beautiful museums...and wonderful London (and Bath! and Brighton!). I miss England ;)

What part of America are you visiting? Your holiday wardrobe sounds super fun!

    2. England really is beautiful, so I'm lucky to live here. So many houses to visit and museums to go to!

I'm going to Orlando, Florida to visit Disney and Universal Studios, as well as some shopping and beach time. :) I've been to Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine before too, and they're all such lovely states.

    3. Have fun in Orlando! I've never been, but as I love Disneyland in California I know I'll visit the Disney parks in Florida one day! I really want to go to the Harry Potter park at Universal too! One day, travel is the best :)

  5. What fabulous fashions! I love the Nelly Don green dress and those 1930's florals and that pink jumper with the full skirt. Lovely! Can't wait to see what you make!

  6. Oh my gosh, yes! I have always wanted to recreate a Bar Suit, I adore anything that is blue and white gingham, but doesn't go Dorothy, and how I wish I could see the detail on the embroidery not the Bon Marche dress!

    1. That Bon Marche dress is such perfection, I'd love one to wear on holiday in the sun, sounds so perfect! Perhaps I'll have to get some embroidery done this spring and try and make something similar :)
