Lumberjill

There is just something about buffalo plaid that feels lumberjack right? Though I'm no lumberjill really, I doubt I could chop down a single tree.

This dress (which debuted in this post from November) is just so comfortable and perfect for winter that I couldn't resist repeating it! I always feel bad repeating outfits here on the blog, but obviously I don't wear something new everyday! It's all about finding new ways to accessorize things, and here I've gone for a more 1940's look than when I last wore this dress on the blog. Where I first paired this rich burgundy red dress with beige and 30's finger waved hair, here I went with bright mustard yellow and big 40's curls. The hat is a newer make of mine, and is really just a silly little felt round piled with matching loops and a felt flower. It's the golden mustard color I really like, I've been on the hunt for accessories in this shade ever since last fall. I recently added a carved plastic (not Bakelite as far as I can tell) brooch in just such a fun yellow shade to my jewelry collection, and here I'm wearing it on my belt as a sort of buckle. I may have ordered real yellow Bakelite earrings just last night from Etsy to match...got to have a set right?

Due a strange schedule including both a snow day but also working an extra day last week I haven't gotten much sewing done. I'm about to dive into making a basic 40's dress in black rayon. I'm sure when that is finished I will be repeating the dress a ton here on the blog, as I will be styling it with many colors for different seasons. How do you guys feel about repeat ensembles on fashion blogs? Does it bother you or do you like how it is more realistic?

  4. You should wear that dress as often as you can, in my view - it's perfect. The mustard/yellow is a great contrast and I love that you wore the brooch as a belt buckle! Kx

  5. Absolutely no reason to feel shame for repeating a dress - you put hard work into creating it so all the more reason to show it off and give it the appreciation it deserves! I don't think I've seen Buffalo Plaid as a dress before and it certainly works very well, I imagine it must be very cozy too. Also, the color of that hat is divine!

  6. I like to see items repeated, it gives me ideas for my own wardrobe as I always need to repeat things. I really like this dress paired with mustard, great colour combination. Your hat is fabulous, are you going to be showing how you made it?

    1. Thank you Kate! I feel like styling and mixing and matching what you already have is such a 40s war-time concept anyway right? I can certainly do a tutorial down the line for this style of hat as it is super easy, I may even be considering making and e-booklet and patterns for some hats...a possible future project!

    2. You are completely right, those 1940's women knew a thing or two about restyling! I would love a tutorial for the hat and the e-booklet plan sounds a super idea.
