One of the less touristy museums I visited in Washington DC was the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) museum. They have a gallery of porcelain, silver, household goods through the ages and more; and also a great set of period rooms set up from different eras. The best thing about the museum was that it was dead empty, meaning these period rooms felt just as if the family had stepped out and I alone was snooping. As a great admirer of historical interior decor and decorative arts, I had a great time wandering and taking photographs in the museum. All these rooms needed were some costumes to match! Did I also mention a visit to the museum is free?
