Favorite Forties

You know those days when you put on the outfit you were planning to wear and nope, not that, and then the next thing you try on you hate too, and then your curl is dropping out of your hair already so you have to pin it up, and then you still have to decide what to wear and--- well, I was having that experience when I spotted this grey jacket hanging in my closet begging to be worn again. I mean, this thing isn't a jacket, its a Jacket, the shoulders are massive. It was the perfect fix, some times the 1940's really come through for you like that.

So I paired it with more 40's favorites of mine and this ensemble quickly came together. The skirt is from my black suit, the hat is one I've had for a while but I usually pin some feathers to it, and the corde clutch is one of my more recent additions. All paired with my trusty Royal Vintage Marilyns of course. I tried to choose a brooch to wear, but this jacket has so much going on already that I ended up deciding against adding jewelry. With such a neutral outfit I could have gone with virtually any accent color, so this time I chose bright green! I like the idea of a fall back outfit that you know you love that can be changed up with different accessories each time.

I am really trying to smile more in photos you guys. I used to really hate my smile, but that seems a silly thing to hate since it's literally the expression of ones happiness. I just don't like what it does to the rest of my face. Gosh insecurities are strange. What else is strange is that just by adding in some darker roots (I painted on about 3-4 inches of brown to my roots all over my head, blending the color into the purple so I wouldn't have harsh lines, and yes, that was hard to do myself) to ombre my purple hair I suddenly love it again after really wavering about whether to just go back brown. I do go on about my hair, sorry about that ;)

I hope you are all having a most fabulous week. I am actually having a really great week myself and feel super motivated to write, which is exactly what I need to do most so it's very convenient! I am finally feeling like I have my energy back after a long hiatus and the change is wonderful even if I know it won't last forever. I'll ride this wave into the weekend and hopefully hit some new word count goals, I wish you all a great one too!

  3. I know how you feel about not liking your smile! I didn't like mine for many years, either. I finally found that I do like my *real* smile - the happy, natural one - as opposed to the fake smile I used in pictures. I think your smile brightens your face and is lovely! Also your outfit is fantastic, and I love the confidence it gives you.

  4. The struggle you describe in the first part of this post is allllll too relatable!!!

And, I LOVE your smile! It is such a classic smile! So I look forward to seeing more of it in future posts. But also, remember you don't always have to if you don't want to!

    1. Thank you Janey! I have a friend who only smiles in photos and I think for fashion photography that would be such a curse, gotta get some blue steel and Tyra smizing in ;)
