Leaves and Needles

Another windy week, and the beautiful fall leaves continue to indeed fall to the ground. Soon enough the only leaves around will be the needles on the evergreens. I wish fall could last forever, but at least when the colorful leaves are gone I will still have this dress!

Some of you may remember this autumnal patterned dress that I made last year, and I still can't believe the amazing deal I got on this lovely rayon fabric! I would love to make some more dresses in this same design, even if my brown wool dress from last week is actually already quite similar now that I think about it. I'd love to find some burgundy or navy blue rayon in the same weight as this leafy print fabric, as it was very easy to work with, and some solid colored dresses would be so versatile! As for this printed version, I styled it with yellow and forest green this time around. Since the print features so many shades, I know I could try styling it with many other color combinations in the future. I can imagine it with all bright red accessories, or even the lighter green or brown-ish tan. I chose to wear my trusty Royal Vintage Marilyn pumps with this ensemble as well, though I'm ever wishing these came in every color of the rainbow honestly, since I can't seem to find any green shoes to my liking at present. I'm on the hunt for dark green pumps and dark brown, but both have been eluding me.

I spent most of the last weekend working on videos, so hopefully I will have another video up at the end of this week for you all. I did go antiquing all day Saturday, which was, as always, a fun adventure. I found a lovely and near mint condition cream colored wooden bead handbag from the 1930s/40s for only $12, so that was probably my best find of the day! I also managed to break a plate and had to buy the whole set of 6 (well, now 5...), luckily for only (again oddly) $12, so that was less fortunate. I am a clumsy person, so with lots of porcelain and glass around at antique malls it's really a wonder how such an accident has only just befallen me now! At least I do sorta like the plates? They won't see use for a while yet, as I have neither a kitchen nor umm...a house..of my own yet, but I'll add them to the pile of things in storage for the fateful day I actually manage to adult properly. Until then I'll just have to be even more careful around stacks of pressed glass tableware!

  1. Whoops on the plate!! Those antique places can be a little crowded, I am always a little nervous in them.
That dress is the most autumnal dress I've ever seen - glad to appreciate its beauty once more! X

    1. Thank you Porcelina! I have to be super cautious in antiques places being so naturally clumsy!

  2. Oooh, lovely yellow accessories. They really pop.

I guess now you have a set of four plates, plus a spare in case one gets broken? China is my weakness. I can resist buying most things 'cos my house is full, but always get suckered in by plates 'because they're practical.'

    1. Thank you Mim! Plates are indeed practical! The plates I ended up buying will be good for serving deserts or scones with tea someday I think, at least they are pretty light green pressed glass and weren't some awful 70's or something!

  5. I found you some dark green 30s/40s inspired heels. ReMix Vintage Shoes (google it for their address IDK if I can put links here) has a shoe called the Joan and it comes in a deep green croco embossed leather heel. Beautiful. Their Miranda style may also come in a deep green, it comes in a fuschia embossed croco (very Schiaparelli!!!)

    1. Oh don't worry I am a big fan of Remix shoes, but I am looking for closed toe plain pumps currently as since I live where it snows they are more practical for me. The reason I have trouble is because I am super picky!
