Coming Up Roses

Well actually, everything (on the larger scale) is pretty darn terrible out there. More reason than ever to take time to stop and appreciate something as fragile and beautiful as a summer rose. Oh USA, when will you finally get it together?

Lets talk about pink again instead. As I was dying my hair over the faded auburn sort of shade I had going on, I knew it wasn't going to turn out bright pink but it is still a bit darker than I would have liked as it almost just looks plain burgundy now! Oh well, perhaps after I wash it a few times it will fade into something a bit more raspberry and if not I'll just dye over it again something more flattering to my coloring...like dark purple ;)

If you remember from my post covering my planned summer sewing projects you will recall that I was originally planning on giving this dress a sarong style skirt. In the end I just couldn't figure out how to do it with there being two layers! The skirt had to be lined, the rose print fabric is quite sheer, but I couldn't engineer a way to do the lining that I liked. So instead this dress got a regular old A-line shaped skirt! It was quicker that way at least, and I do like a fast project. The fabric was a great bargain find, but the sheer cotton was a bit fragile to work with. Now that it is all together I am still really happy with how it came out <3

I have another floral project on my sewing table for this upcoming weekend. I'll keep up the florals for now until fall arrives, then it's back to my beloved plaids and lovely wool tweeds :)

  1. I actually love the burgundy on you! And as a bonus, it matches your gloves. Beautiful print on the dress, and the dress clips are fabulous.

    1. Thank you! Sadly it faded to a dull burgundy red after just one shampoo (even in cold water!). I got fed up with it and put some purple over it for now, but there are a few more outfits I took photos of while it was still the odd red color.

  5. Oh my gosh, your hair looks amazing! Such a wonderful colour. It'll be interesting to see what sort of colour it fades to. xx

    1. Thank you Cate! It faded to burgundy red almost immediately unfortunately, so much for dark jewel toned pink!

  7. Yep the past week/last few days have been pretty dismal with what's going on in the world. I'm 100% with you when you say it's important to appreciate the little things, I've been feeling very much the same. Can I just say again how much I am loving your hair colour? The way it matches this dress and especially your gloves is superb!

  8. Liking the hair colour with that dress. It is annoying when you can't get colour to last as you want it.

  9. I like the burgundy-pink hair. I bet you could co-ordinate it with a glass of good French red...

Yeah, the world is turning to bobbins. But together we can all push back and keep making it a fairer, more beautiful place. Let's not let the haters and bullies take control. Things like the anti-far-right protest in Boston can give us all hope.

  10. Is this the new version of Scarlet O’Hara, instead of draperies, duvets are used to fashion an ensemble? The only thing that could make this ever more divine would be that the duvet was thrifted...Regardless, you & the dress are sublime!
