I really love tropical prints, but I can be kind of picky about them. I prefer just leaves, possibly some flowers, but preferably no birds, though I have found exceptions to these rules. This blouse with the dark red leaves on light blue with a slight yellow outline printed on rayon crepe is one of my favorite tropical prints in my closet! So odd to have found such a nice blouse at H&M of all places, but they were having a banner year for prints last spring.
This outfit came out rather bright and tropical overall, so clearly I should have been wearing it somewhere more exotic than the local park, but unfortunately I have no beach or jungle excursions in my future this summer. I could perhaps still blend up some fresh pina coladas and pretend I'm back in Tulum, but that's a close as it's gonna get! I have some tropical print fabrics in my stash waiting to become fun summer frocks as well, and I really need to get going on those as to my surprise it is already July! What! July already! Goodness, as usual I am feeling behind. There is just always so much to do and so much to sew you know?
I have actually been rather negligent about my to-do list lately, instead spending some time last week painting and redecorating my bedroom a bit instead of working on sewing or blogging/videos. It was my little summer break I suppose, that I took almost by accident! This past weekend was exceedingly social compared to my usual introverted homebody standards, with a wonderful high tea at a historic hotel downtown on Friday, and visiting an antique market and more antique shops all day on Saturday! It was so fun spending some time with two different wonderful friends, but I sure felt that tell-tale introvert exhaustion by Sunday. A bit of alone time this morning has helped me recharge before I sort out my schedul for the week and get going on some neglected tasks. I have some traditional black and white gingham and the aforementioned tropical print fabrics calling my name and I simply have to get back in the sewing room!

These colours are adorable - the rustic-like redness really suits the print. And I think it all works perfectly in the park rather than on a beach! Kx
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am a big fan of the color red no matter the season :)
DeleteI'd never have guessed that was H&M! It goes so well with your skirt, I thought it had to be a complete set you'd made yourself.
ReplyDeletePrints are the thing I struggle to find. I'm so picky about them!
Thank you Mim! I was surprised to see how well the reds paired, a good surprise!
DeleteYou and I are of a similar mind. I don't care much for birds on tropical prints either.
ReplyDeleteI adore this outfit. The skirt is stunning!

Thank you Janey! I just feel so often the birds look like an after thought or are the wrong choice of bird species for the style of print!
DeleteI thought you had made this as a matching outfit, it looks super. I like the yellow belt with the red too. Sounds like you have had some fun outings. I know what you mean about needing time alone to recover though!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kate-Em!
DeleteI love the color combination on that blouse! The red, baby blue, and yellow are so pretty. The skirt and belt are perfect with it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jessica! :)
