Blue Roses and Lavender Lilies

I hadn't worn this skirt in ages, and sometimes you just want to throw an outfit together you know? Perhaps I didn't take my usual amount of care putting this look together, but you know, it's summer and it's hot out there.

This outfit feels oddly casual to me, perhaps it doesn't look that way, but patterned skirt+solid top is an old standby formula that usually works. I just need a big natural colored straw hat to wear with my other wicker and straw accessories, I'm always on the hunt for the right one! This necklace has natural colored straw beads too, and is a Miriam Haskell (!), one of the only branded pieces of costume jewelry I have in my collection. I do have a straw clutch on my wishlist as well, but for now wicker handbags do the job of matching straw colors admirably. I particularly like this embellished handbag as an alternative to my more plain wicker bag I have had for a few years. Like all vintage accessories, I'd love to have a rainbow selection of wicker handbags someday!

I hope you all had a great weekend. I didn't get any sewing done sadly but I have been working on writing a lot lately, but any time I can get a good amount of writing or editing done I still feel accomplished. It's easy, when I always have so many different creative outlets going at once, to feel uninspired in one area and procrastinate with my sewing by writing, or my writing with sewing. Switching around projects this weekend meant I didn't finish any one thing, but progress was made so I'm calling it a win!

  1. Cute and casual - still acres more stylish than most people's idea of casual!! Xx

  2. Progress is always a win.

It's 'casual for vintage people' - most non-vintage lovers would still think it was extremely smart. (I once got accused of being posh for wearing a skirt, though that's my own fault for drinking in guttersnipey pubs occasionally.)

    1. True enough ;) I dress casual for normal non-vintage people for my day job, which is much less glamorous but essential as I work in production.

  4. I totally get what you mean by this outfit feeling casual, for people who dress vintage on a daily basis, a simple skirt and top combo, while always wonderful, chic, and stylish, can feel casual when compared to the days spent in suits, gowns, and cupcake dresses. However, "outsiders" who don't wear vintage, still consider this to be a "dressed up" look.

That view aside, I do really, really love this outfit! I adore the cut of the top, and the pattern on the skirt! I love blue flowers. Also, your shoes are a dream!!

    1. Thank you Janey! The shoes were a lucky find at an odd little discount shoe shop in San Diego with mostly modern looking shoes, but they seemed so 50's to me that I snapped them up!
