Sunday Spotlight: The Crown

This is a public service announcement: if you haven't watched Netflix's new royal drama The Crown, you should probably do so at your earliest convenience! The Queen may not be known for taking risks in her fashion sense, but the clothes on this show are wonderful! Early 50's dresses abound, also casual cardigans, cute hats, and prim handbags aplenty. I have only watched through episode 4 so far, but I especially loved Claire Foy's (who plays the Queen) costumes from the scenes in Africa, which is no surprise as you know I all love anything even vaguely safari. I look forward to the rest of this first seasons costumes, and apparently the second season is already being filmed!

Have any of you watched The Crown? What did you like of the show and the costumes?

    1. I am happy to be associated with safari outfits in any capacity! I need to finish watching season 1, but December is my busiest month so I am strapped for time to do so!

  4. Yes! I'm actually up to the last episode, and it's really marvelous. The costumes are really fun, and it's surprising the amount of drama that they manage to mine from the life of someone who is professionally a bit boring. The acting is really well done in that regard - they do a great job giving her an interesting inner life.

    1. Professionally boring is such a good descriptor for the royal family ha! If they are making waves they're doing it wrong, I guess that's true enough :)

  5. I'm actually annoyed they got the Queen's main tiara wrong - they keep showing her in the Cambridge Lover's Knot rather than the Girls of Britain and Ireland, and it's just WRONG. I don't know why they spent so much on costumes and didn't bother making a copy of her most iconic tiara.

    1. I did think it was odd when I spotted that tiara when I was watching, but mostly because I feel like the Cambridge Lover's Knot is just so associated with Diana now. Ella Kay (a most fabulous tiara blogger) has it that the Queen did wear the CLK a bit in the early 50's though so perhaps this is what the show was drawing on. http://orderofsplendor.blogspot.com/2011/03/tiara-thursday-cambridge-lovers-knot.html

    1. They are pretty great, not groundbreaking fashion-forward for their time, but just perfectly ordinary 50s!
