British Pathe Favorites

Some of you may have heard of British Pathe films before, but now that they have uploaded their entire collection of videos from the late 19th century to the mid 1970's onto YouTube, there are a lot of amazing clips to peruse! The fashion videos are what hold the most interest for me, and they are endlessly inspiring! I thought I would put a little collection of videos together for you today!

Everything about this video is gold, 40's mend and make do at its best! I now thoroughly want this same black dress and dozen of these transforming accessories! The look with the vest! So cute!

I always enjoy a good runway show, I particularly like the onlookers with their cute hats and puzzled expressions! The plaid/gingham ensemble from the show is divine, as are the various suits!

This is one charmed look at the show girl lifestyle, I doubt anyone's show girl life was really this innocent and ideal!

I love these funny 40's videos where ladies are nonchalantly sitting or walking around in a "natural" way and yet also showing off the clothes. I love the striped blouse in this clip!

A glimpse at 1940's British Vogue! I wish I could buy a huge stack of these old issues, perhaps one day when I have the $$ and a coffee table to put them on!

This video reminds us just how fitted 40's clothes could be! Everything is gorgeous of course, making me want to plan dozens of sewing projects.

So glamorous! That white evening gown in layers of beaded tulle!? Stunning! The suits are beautiful too, nothing better than perfect suits for day and sparkling gowns for night!

This video combines two of my favorite things, great fall fashion and London! Doesn't get better than these beautiful ensembles and being beside the river Thames.

I think the best thing about this video is seeing the models outfits getting on and off the plane! So many great ensembles and hats!

Back when Dior was Dior darling!

Okay, take me back to Paris please! Especially if I can wear such amazing clothes! Once again I want all of the suiting! The chartreuse dress! Get in my closet!

I spent way too much time down the rabbit hole watching these videos yesterday, now I leave them here for you! I've gotta get back to sewing!

  1. Hello Bianca, hope you're having a lovely day!

This isn't about the videos (although I am planning on watching some when I get back from my holiday), but I just wanted to say that I'm really pleased I discovered your blog! The regular updates are wonderful, and every blog post is very inspirational. Not to mention, I love your glamorous personal style and think your outfit shoots are gorgeous!
I'm waiting for a good opportunity to sit and read lots of your posts at once (especially the 1920s ones - my current inspiration), so I'm just going to say that I love your blog!

By the way, have you ever watched or read the "Jeeves and Wooster" series, which has Stephen Fry (a brilliant actor who once played Oscar Wilde, if I remember correctly) and Hugh Laurie, and was written by P.G. Wodehouse? The books are set between the late 1910s onwards, mostly in the 20s and 30s, and the series has plenty of stunning outfits, especially on the prim and tailored Wooster. It sounds like something you may enjoy, if you like light-hearted humor and the 20th century fashions. :)

    1. Wow! Thank you so much Ellie, this has been the most amazing comment to wake up to today! I'm so glad you enjoy the blog, it means a lot to me :)

I have heard of Jeeves and Wooster, I adore Stephan Fry (and enjoy binge watching some QI) but I haven't yet gone through and watched all of Jeeves and Wooster, I am sure I'll enjoy it immensely! I'll have to look into watching it soon!
