Vintage Ad Spotlight: Trifari

Last time we admired some Coro advertising, today we look into some Trifari! I have a few Trifari pieces, though I find Trifari tends to be priced higher than other mid-century costume jewelry brands today.

The firm was founded in the 1910s by Gustavo Trifari, an Italian-immigrant son of a Napoli goldsmith. In 1930 the firm made a very wise choice, hiring Alfred Philippe as head designer. Philippe had a background designing for fine jewelry firms like Cartier and Van Cleef & Arples and his designs brought a sense of luxury and high style to Trifari. He designed for the firm through it's mid-century heyday from 1930 to 1968. Trifari still makes costume jewelry today, though now the firm is owned by Monet, and sadly the modern Trifari is no where near as pretty as the mid-century gems!

I love these floral designs, I'd love to own a white set to wear all summer long!
I prefer the blue set from this selection
This set really calls to me, I would love to place an order! Look at the prices, $7.50 each for the bracelets and the necklace, and $5.00 for the earrings!
The red and green set reminds me of tutti frutti!
I have definitely seen several of these sets for sale on Etsy, I particularity like the multicolored flowers!
Sparkling early 60's glam! I'll take the blue set please!
This ad, and the jewelry, are to-die-for! 18th century inspired advertising and jewelry from the 1950's? yes yes yes!
These odd ads with the ribbon blindfolds are rather strange! I find them a bit creepy really, but the jewelry is still lovely!

  1. Trifari excelled at marrying cuteness/sweetness with glam elegance. Their offerings could easily be sported by moms, daughters, and grandmas alike and that, I think, is part of the reason they became a mega brand on the costume jewelry front. I really like Trifari, particularly their pieces involving rhinestones, flowers and/or animals, and adore finding them for the shop (and my own closet).

This series is sooo great! Thank you again for starting it. I'm already counting down the days until the next installment.

  2. Great to see these adverts - I have a mid-century Trifari necklace that I found in a charity shop for just £1! I'd love to add more to my collection but fear I'd be paying a lot more than that...
