Fawkes the Pheonix

Has it occurred to anyone else that Fawkes, Dumbledore's pet phoenix from Harry Potter, was probably named after Guy Fawkes? Like get it? Bonfire night/phoenix explosion/fire rebirth? I just realized this! By the way, yes this is going to be one nerdy outfit post folks so prepare yourselves!

The weekend before last, my mom and I attended the symphony to hear The Music of Harry Potter! This probably isn't a surprise, but I am a huge Potter fan so I was very excited to hear the music from the films played live. Just like the books, the music from the films is very important to me. I grew up with Harry, the books and the films being consistently released as I grew up. Which is why when I saw the Colorado symphony was going to be playing the music, I just had to go!

I decided to wear one of the 1920's dresses I made this spring. This one is the least authentic looking of the bunch due to the crazy colorful feather print fabric. I love this dress, the fabric is just super awesome and I get tons of compliments every time I wear it! People are not really used to 20's shaped dresses, and most dresses today are either short or maxi length, whereas this dress is in between. I love a good hankerchief hem! This dress features a riot of colors from bright magenta to soft sage green and every color in between. I usually like jewel tones or black, so this dress is one of the more brightly colored items in my closet for sure.

Dress, Necklace and Earrings: Made by me

Shoes: Nine West
Hair Comb: Ebay (Titanic replica comb)

We shot some pictures by the colorful graffiti but then spotted this awesome building on our way to lunch and stopped to take a few photos. I love when Victorian/early 20th century paint/advertisements are left on old buildings.

There is still one more chiffon 20's dress I made this spring that hasn't made it to the blog yet, one day perhaps. I have been rather busy this week but I will talk to you guys soon!

  1. That concert sounds great, and something I would really enjoy too. Lovely dress, and even though the print might not be authentic, it is a stylish look. Love the hair comb too!
