Make a dress I suppose.
I do quite like lemons, lemonade, lemon cookies, lemon pie...and lemon prints. This dress has appeared before here on the blog, but how can one not wear a lemon dress again and again every time summer arrives? This time I paired it with black accessories and bright green gloves. This is the Besame 1946 Red Velvet lipstick I have on here, which I have to say I like more than I thought I would and I may just have to pick up a full sized product of! Currently I have little sample tubes of several of their colors-- and I thought I wouldn't like them thanks to a less than stellar experience first trying their lipsticks many many years ago, but instead I really like them! Guess I might be converted to a Besame gal after all...
I've got a lot of work to do this month to reach some goals I set myself before my birthday next month (nooooo...why!!!!ahhherggg) but hopefully that won't mean I am any more quiet here on the blog than usual. I have to write query letters basically, which means distilling a (very long) novel into a cover letter to convince some really smart people to please read it (and represent it, and buy it). It's very scary, and I am very scared about it. I wish someone else had read the book at this point so I could get some help, but it is like pulling teeth to get anyone I know to read a book. If the darn thing was at all vintage, or even historical fiction or something, I'd offer you all the chance to become beta readers in a shot, but this book is such a weird genre and is just not like my other creative work at all really. Anyone out there like semi sci-fi, occasionally quite violent, sorta post apocalyptic books with a queer girl romance to top it all off? Sharing your art is so terrifying, gracious.
Anyways, back to editing for me, I hope you're all well <3

My day job may be on videogames magazines, but in my spare time I am a professional science fiction/fantasy book reviewer - I have been reviewing for SFX since 1998 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SFX_(magazine)) and contributed to encyclopedia The Sci-Fi Chronicles (https://www.amazon.com/Sci-Fi-Chronicles-History-Galaxys-Greatest/dp/1770852646) among other things, so if you want me to look at your book, I'm happy to do so. (None of that's intended to sound boastful, btw, it's more a way of establishing my credentials so you know I'm not messing you about.) A PDF would be ideal as that way I can send it to my Kindle. Anyway, email me at crinolinerobot AT yahoo DOT com if you want to talk about it more.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that both of those occupations sound really awesome! My book is definitely on the speculative/soft science fiction side of the scale, but as I finish up this latest edit I may just have to take you up on this offer because it would indeed be amazing to get a professional's opinion. Hopefully I can finish the edit and be in touch soon :)
DeleteHi there,
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous as ever. I really like this sillhouette on you. And by the way, your front wave is divine 😍
How long is your book, how many pages and how many words. I would be interested in reading it, but I guess since English is not my mother tongue - I wouldn't be perfect for the job 🤔
Greetings from Germany,
Sandy
Thank you Sandy! It is my hope that someday everyone will get to read it, and in a dream world it would be popular enough someone would even publish it in German too ;) It's really too long at 140,000 words! I'm trying to edit it down some!
DeleteI'd love to read the book, it sounds like just my cup of tea :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Suna! If all else fails I'll self publish, so it will be available one day somehow or another ;)
DeleteGreat, I'll wait for it then :)
DeleteI mean, i like sci fi? Im probably going to do a reread of classic sci fi dystopias soon, as my husband hasnt read many. Feel free to shoot me a line if youd like to discuss what youre looking for in a beta.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tegan! I actually haven't read much sci fi myself, and my book is definitely on the soft sci fi more speculative fiction side of the spectrum. I need to get a new library card so I can make up for not having read so many of the classics!
DeleteGorgeous dress, lemon perfection!
ReplyDeleteIf I wasn't finishing my PhD I would offer to read your book but I am grappling with 80,000 words of my own ;)
Best of luck with your letter writing. Just remember that JK Rowling got 90 rejections! Xx
Thank you Porcelina! A PhD does sound like very serious business, I wish the best of lucky in that fight! I keep JK Rowling in mind often, some silly people out there rejected Harry Potter, and it wasn't published until she was 32, which reminds me that my 20s don't have to be make it or break it. I need that perspective in my weird brain!
DeleteI love this dress, Bianca. Especially the cut and style as it really suits you. I have to admit to going all of a flutter over the wonderful colour of your gloves!
ReplyDeleteRegarding your book, Mim seems an excellent choice to help with reading and feedback. Good luck with the editing!
Thank you Carol Ann! The gloves were a lucky find, even if the fingers are a bit short, but finding the perfect fit in vintage gloves is so rare anyways ;)
DeleteDon't you look fresh as a... uh, well, a lemon, I guess! That's a fantastic print, and I love the black and green accessories with it.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read your book! I just posted a review of some of my recent reads, and yours sounds right up my alley.
Thank you Jessica! Now that I am done writing this project I am looking forward to reading more this summer so I will have to check out your recommendations!
DeleteWhat a gorgeous dress I particularly like the black background so much more practical than the usual white.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
