New Video: Closet Tour!

Over here on the good ol' blog (blogs are so passé, so 2008 these days, which is too bad because I still LOVE them), you all see my wardrobe all the time in my weekly outfit posts, and I have blogged about my hat storage before, but this weekend on YouTube I put up a video tour of my closet! I am the closet historian after all, I love a good closet.

So if you have ever been curious about how I store my vintage jewelry and accessories, or my retro clothes and repro shoes, now you can see for yourself! I don't quite have the Dita Von Teese style dressing room/closet of my dreams just yet, but I am lucky to have a small walk in closet and some good dresser real estate in my bedroom for storage.

I have actually been thinking a lot about going through my wardrobe with a really fine toothed comb and weeding out some things that are no longer bringing me joy, which sounds so floaty to say, but I have a feeling it might help me with styling if I clear away some stuff that is no longer fully "me". Style evolves after all, which reminds me- please don't go look at my first year of outfit posts unless you need a laugh. At least looking back at old photos is a reminder that I have made a lot of progress towards truly finding my personal style and visual voice. I'd love to keep learning about styling, and have been looking at some different modern fashion blogs lately to try and get inspired in new ways. If only I had access to full copies of 1940's fashion magazines, I'm sure they would be full of ideas!

Must just be part of that January feeling, craving the new, craving renewal itself. Is anyone else taking stock of their wardrobe and making new plans for their style? The world may be a tornado of nope, but fashion still provides a fun escape for us very lucky few <3

  1. A walk-in wardrobe always sounds unbelievably luxurious to me! I'm very envious of your bag storage space.

I usually do a look back at the previous year's fashion at the start of each January. It's interesting to see how style changes and evolves - we'd all be pretty boring if we never changed or got excited by different things.

  2. I enjoyed this peek into your storage. I don't feel quite so bad now myself about my own storage woes (compounded by my husband being as much a clothes horse as me!). Those velvet type trays are such a good idea for jewellery, I'll have to look out for some. I rotate between seasons too, it's the only way to make it vaguely managable. You have some amazing pieces xx

    1. Thank you Porcelina! I was really happy to find the velvet trays at the craft store where I could use a coupon because it would be pricey to get them online, but I did see them on Amazon. It seems they are often too wide to fit in the dresser I've got too so I was glad these ones were smaller, they work really well!

  3. Okay, I had to go back and look at your early posts - just because you asked us not to. :) They are darling. Hey, did you know that Jack White filmed a video at the Cruise Room? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQOnbp_DspY

  5. Oh I loved watching this! I used to have a few of those Ikea shoe boxes, which I used for my slippers. But they got ruined when our bathroom (which was connected to our closet) flooded.

I get people asking for closet tours, but I still have yet to do it, because I am lousy at videos!

As for how I store things... I store most of my shoes in clear plastic shoe drawers I picked up at the Container Store. But some don't fit and go on shelves on their own. Gloves I store in similar clear plastic drawers, as do some belts. Then I store my jewelry in a variety of ways, vintage stocking boxes (which I also use for the scarves I wear in my hair), on T stands, and in jewelry boxes I got at Home Goods. Other scarves go in a vintage hat box, as do some hats, while others sit in a vintage suitcase, and other hats hang.

    xoxo
