With the arrival of the frosts and early sprinklings of snow, it is time to sort out styling coats. If only finding 1940's coats was as easy as choosing from dozens of options in a mail order catalog. These pages may be from the Spring/Summer 1943 Montgomery Wards catalog, but swap out the straw hats for wool and these coats would be just as fabulous for late fall and winter. I know I'd like several of these coats in my closet! It may be time to try and make a coat, though the many layers involved are intimidating. just look at the coat on the left in the image below though! So dreamy. I've got a dress to make first, and hopefully it will be just the project I need to get sewing again more frequently. Have a good weekend everyone!
Yes Bianca, I wish we could just order a coat from the past catalogues!Hope you share the dress you are making with us. I haven't done any machine sewing for months as my sewing room has every surface covered in items I need to find a home for. I'm clearing it gradually so hope to unearth the sewing machine soon and then I'm going to try your one hour 1920s dress pattern. Carol
ReplyDeleteI have been neglecting sewing as well, I just hadn't been feeling it for some reason. Good lucky with your 1920s 1 hour, they are a great jumpstart project as they are pretty straightforward. I'm sure my new dress project will end up on blog eventually ;)
DeleteWhat a wonderful selection of coats. Would it not be wonderful to be able to buy vintage items as easily as shopping from an old catalog! A dream come true. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteThe catalogs I collect usually have old blank order forms and I only wish I could fill them out and send them in!
DeleteI think we've hit Peak Shoulder there, haven't we? Some of those less fitted coats look almost rectangular. Not that I'd turn one down...
ReplyDeleteI actually sort of want one of those really rectangular coats for some reason, with some faux fur trim down the front :)
