Leaves on the Ground

So alright this vest didn't come out exactly how I had wanted back when I made it last winter, and it isn't exactly the most flattering as a result, but I remain determined to wear it anyway apparently, and it did finish off this ensemble perfectly. I'll have to make a new version of the pattern and give it another go sometime. I think perhaps it's the princess seam I don't like so much, so next time I'll try  darts instead.

I just had the most full weekend and spent all day Sunday celebrating October's arrival with a mountain drive to see the golden aspens. We even got some snow at the summit of our drive! I always love making a trek along one of the mountain passes here in the Rockies to admire the scenery and take fun pictures for this blog every fall, so expect some pretty nature backgrounds coming soon. The maple tree in our yard is fully red now already, so I'll have to get some photos of the leaves as they are just gorgeous!

Of course after all that fall splendor this weekend, I woke up to the news from Las Vegas today. It's really hard to understand why my fellow US citizens don't want to ban firearm ownership. Having myself heard gunshots ringing out over a mountain stream just yesterday, no doubt someone hunting or just playing around shooting out into the open wilderness, I have to wonder, is your hobby (or power trip? that target really had it coming right?) really worth the chance (or reality rather) that other people will be killed? No. It is just so frustrating, as is the majority of US politics and social discourse these days. I did have a random youtube commenter call me a "triggered feminist" and a "joyless c**t" this weekend too, which added to the other news makes me just more sad that toxic masculinity is such a huge pervasive problem. I'd rather be called a triggered feminist and whatever else they deem a woman with an opinion to be, than a violent, insecure male any day thanks. All of this is why we create little pretty fashion worlds to escape into for a moments peace, I know. Everyone needs small breaks from the barrage of bad news, I know I do. It's all such a mess.

Stay safe out there everyone, do what you can, read widely and question biases, even your own. If the world doesn't learn to think critically soon, we're determined to repeat ever more mistakes.

  1. The oufit looks good. I think the vest would read better as a vest if the neckline was a fraction wider & deeper. Maybe 1/4" to 1cm.

  2. Yes, the news from Las Vegas is horrible. All those poor people! One of my former workmates is there on holiday at the mo and had to stay in his hotel, but at least he was safe. So thank you for creating your own nice, safe and fun corner of the world. Everyone needs safety and nice things!

    1. I agree Mim, if only we (as a species really) could do better at making sure everyone had both safety and nice things!

  3. Gorgeous outfit Bianca, I love the waistcoat, and I can see that you're fully immersed in enjoying autumn. Your drive sounds lovely, I look forward to more pictures. You get much better colour changes with the trees in the US than we do here in the UK I think.

There has been some very awful news lately across the globe. Like you I despair at some of the reactions that people have to it. And the inaction too - I researched and wrote a dissertation on violent crime in the USA 17 years ago now and had no idea back then that gun laws wouldn't have changed all that much in that time.

    1. Thank you Porcelina! I know the east coast of the US gets even richer colors so I'd love to visit them someday!

I really wish the US had gun laws similar to those in the UK or Australia, as currently the lack of regulation on such dangerous weapons here is ridiculous.

  4. Very cute! I love the vest with the pussy bow blouse, and the plaid skirt is perfect for fall. The gorgeous fall background seems so serene - I would love to spend a day walking in those trees.

  5. This just makes me long for the changing, falling eaves, which are only just starting over here! A really lovely, autumn/fall look. Kx

    1. We are at peak autumn color here now and sadly it's about to snow and ruin it all! Snow can be so irritating :(
