100 Years of Bobbed Hair

Whew! This video took a century to put together (ha get it?), but seriously, between filming all the segments and editing each era to look similar to the film/tv from that era as well, this was quite the project!

The 1915-1950's segments were the easiest for me to style of course, since that half of the century is much more in my usual wheelhouse, but the 1970s gave me trouble as without layers in my hair I couldn't quite get the Farrah Fawcette flip I was going for! I probably could have used more teasing for my 1960s hairstyle too, but as my hair is lightened right now I didn't want to risk the breakage of over teasing. The 80's make-up was super fun to do, and the 2000s was the opposite! I feel like that was indeed how I did my make-up as a young'un in 2005, and it wasn't a good look on me then either. Also I had forgotten how gross lip-gloss feels! No gloss for me thanks.

Even though putting all the extra effects together was killing my poor laptop, which just isn't designed for video editing, I had a great time editing this video and actually quite like editing in general! I am excited to keep making videos, and growing my fledgling YouTube channel is a fun new challenge. If any of you guys like the video and think you know others who would enjoy it too, please do share it as it would really help me out. Gosh that sounds so spammy, but I worked really hard on this one and I want to show it to the world now! Thanks so much for your constant support over the years by the way, I really appreciate every visitor and comment <3

  2. That is awesome, Bianca! I'll share it in my newsletter this week. I really do need to learn to do some curls and have some more fun with my bob! Also, I loved the 80s editing as well as the makeup. So much fun.

    1. Thank you so much Tanith! That's one of the best things about the bob though, you don't actually have to "do" it all the time ;)

  3. I'm so used to thinking of your hair as classic mid century, it was eye opening to see it so expertly styled in the other eras! Your 60s was gorgeous- and I have a special place in my heart for your 90s look :)

    1. Thank you Tegan! The 90's look is definitely fun, and so much better than the 2000s on me in my opinion!

  4. This is so much fun and so well done! I don't know if you saw one of my wedding projects I wrote about, but it was kind of similar in that I was recreating looks from the decades (with my now husband) - but I took photos rather than made a video so I can only imagine the effort that went into making this!! Bravo :) x

    1. Thank you CiCi! I feel like you had twice the work styling your fiancé /husband as well as yourself for each era! While it must have been a lot of work, I imagine it was really fun seeing each other made up for each decade!

  5. Loved it! Always been a fan of the bob, loved the 80s makeup and the 90s was dead on! I remember that girl from highschool! I even liked your 2000s look with the frosty makeup, haha. The 20s-50s were my favorites though!

    1. Thank you Jocie! It felt odd to be doing other eras outside of my usual 20's-50's looks!

  9. You did an absolutely outstanding job here, not like I'm biased or anything being a bobbed haired girl myself :p ;) But seriously, I really enjoyed the concept and the way the editing was so on point for every decade. I can really appreciate the hours that went into creating this. Also, that has to be one of the best, most sleek 50s pageboys I've seen. Boy am I glad lip gloss is not a thing anymore...I don't ever want to see anyone try to make that happen again! I remember wearing it in the 2000s thinking wtf am I doing this to myself, before eventually just giving up...I used to be a big fan of the Lancome Juicy Fruits but that stuff seriously ended up in my mouth more than it actually stayed on my lips. I would love to see you do another video like this in the future!

    1. Thank you so much Harlow! I find the key to a sleek pageboy for me is using my smallest size curling iron before brushing it all under. The pageboy in this video is the exact same set as the 1940s clip, I simply went and bushed it into the pageboy after filming the 40s clip! I had forgotten how gross lipgloss feels, especially since I wear matte lipsticks most of the time so it felt extra weird having something different on my lips.

  10. I loved this! It was so brilliant, well done on making it. It must have taken you ages but it was so worth it. Great 1980's hair and make up. I liked the 1960's bob too. Wonderful.
