Dreaming of Sakura Matsuri

Perhaps one day I will be able to experience Hanami (Cherry blossom viewing) in Japan, but for now I'll have to admire the flowering trees here at home in Colorado. Luckily the snow on Saturday didn't kill the flowers before they had even fully opened and on Sunday the trees were blooming in the crisp spring sunshine!

I wore a new-to-me vintage suit jacket with super crazy tailoring. I should probably wear this gorgeous jacket with a bit more under-structure next time, like a long line bra, as the slim tailoring deserves nice smooth lines. I adore the details of this jacket, the embroidered arrow lines, the slightly flared cuffs, and the unique tailoring of the front princess seams. For its first outing I paired the jacket with the skirt from my Lilli Ann suit as the beige flecks in the deep navy skirt matched the light beige/tan of the jacket perfectly! I should have worn my more basic navy pumps, but these t-straps aren't too bad. I usually prefer simple pumps with longer skirts to lengthen the line of the leg. I really need to invest in some navy leather heels as I don't have a sturdy navy shoe to wear with suits, but I have such a hard time finding ones I like! Does anyone else have difficulty finding navy shoes?

On the subject of accessories, the handle of this handbag sadly snapped off later in the day :( I think I still may be able to make it work as a clutch, or may find some gold chain for a new strap? Poor vintage, so old and yet still put to use. In better news I have one new navy blue gloves here which are a size 8 and therefore actually fit me! They actually are new too, as they were deadstock and still stitched together with a label. One always feels a bit guilty using suck items after all these years, but (as a bit of a germaphobe) I also really love knowing no one else's sweaty palms have been in my new gloves! Gross but true.

Anyways, I hope wherever you are, some cherry blossoms are blooming nearby and spring is looking brighter. Unless you're in Australia, in which case happy fall! I have to go finish beading a bolero now...(yes another one, it's different I promise!)

  2. Cream (I think of your jacket as a sort of cream even if is tending towards khaki) and blue always looks so smart, and this outfit is definitely no exception. The highlight for me is the heels with the longer-length skirt - they are a perfect combo! Kx

  3. Very smart, navy is a chic colour. I do find navy shoes harder to find than black. Looking forward to seeing your next bolero!

  4. I love the navy and the tan together - it's such a classically chic color combination, and it really keeps the focus on the beautiful tailoring of that jacket. Pity about the strap of the purse coming off, but I'm sure you'll find a way to make it work! I love the idea of using a gold chain for it.

  5. Oh goodness yes, navy shoes are so hard to find! I'm still using a pair of modern navy sandals I really don't like, just because I can't find anything to replace them with.

Love the outfit. I didn't even notice the flecks in the skirt at first!

    1. Thank you Sally! I am on the lookout for pumps in a really dark navy leather, there are so many pointy toed stilettos but I am after a more 40s shape!
