Spring Returns

I am really, really hoping that we have finally had our last snow of the spring. I am so ready for real spring weather, bluer skies and flower buds please! While the plants rejoice in what hopefully is the true arrival of sunny spring, I pulled out the first of many straw hats I can't wait to show you!

This huge red straw hat is so large it doesn't fit in a single one of my various storage boxes! I had to Frankenstein a box from cardboard just to keep it safe. It still needs a bit of repair work done, a few stitches here and there along the braid, but look at this baby in action! You all know my love of hats, and I couldn't wait any longer to pair this one with the rest of my red accessories. I think a full set of red accessories is probably the most useful to a vintage loving gal, they match ones lipstick most often after all!

I made this cotton 50's dress last summer and you have seen it before in this post from last August. This time I paired it with the red, but I can imagine it with green or yellow as accent colors too in the future. The brown, grey, black, and white print could really be paired with any color and I look forward to trying it with many this upcoming summer. Did you notice my handbag in these shots? It's new and I think I'm in love! It's candy apple red, with a true metallic fleck shine like car paint! Mid-century greatness :)

I hope you all had a great Star Wars day, or just a nice week in general. I've been busy and have an even more jam-packed weekend ahead as I am scrambling to catch up on a bunch of things, including a lot of sewing!

  1. I noticed your handbag (and stunning hat!) instantly and am completely taken with it (them). What a fabulous purse! I have a red mid-century bag, too, and it gets every bit as much use as my vintage brown, black, and navy blue bags (sometimes more so even). I adore this elegant ensemble and just have to say how breathtaking I think red is on you!

    Many hugs,
    ♥ Jessica

  3. This dress is so lovely and spring-like, and it works so well with the red accessories. In the photos, your hat, necklace and belt show a sort of earthy red, which is just perfect with the tones of the dress. Lovely! Karen x

  4. A wonderful hat indeed! It's funny you should mention red accessories, I was thinking recently that I could do with red gloves and red peep toe shoes to help bring a few outfits together. I will be keeping an eye out! x

    1. Thanks Porcelina! I need new red gloves myself as the pair I've got are just a bit too small for me!
