Point Loma

The last post left from my California adventures back in March!

Point Loma, where Europeans set foot on California for the first time back in the 16th century. Portuguese navigator Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo embarked from Mexico leading an expedition for the Spanish crown to explore the west coast of what would (much later) become the US. There is now a large statue of said navigator on the very peninsula he had landed on. We didn't visit the statue on this visit, after all the tide pools and dramatic cliffs are a bit more exciting. Mostly I wanted to dip my toes in the water and search for sea life in the low tide. It's not often I visit an ocean these days!

The breeze was pretty strong and we only spotted a few tiny hermit crabs and a camera shy octopus who disappeared as quickly as he could manage but it was a most lovely little visit. My grandparents used to have a sail boat themselves and traveled the west coasts of the US, Mexico, and beyond. Their adventurous stories filled my childhood and the souvenirs and photos certainly helped spark my own wanderlust I have a certain love for ships and boats, though really I know nothing about them, that I can credit to associating all sea craft with my wonderful grandparents who I so adore and admire. It was so wonderful to spend time with them in my original home city of San Diego!

For a day along the coast I wore my gingham dress and topped it with a navy blue twill jacket. I can't believe I hadn't thought to pair the two together before! The large sailboat brooch is a new acquisition that I can't wait to wear all summer. The brass and faux-marcisite pairing seems to have been a set style as I have found two brooches in the combo this year. I'd love to find more so I am certainly going to keep my eye out for any others hiding out there! I had my cute two tone Chelsea Crew heels in the car, but only sandals would do for exploring the tide pools along the shore below the cliffs.

At last we have come to the end of my posts from California! The trip already seems like ages ago somehow, and my travel bug is back already!

  1. Stunning outfit and photos! There's nothing quite like the majestic beauty of the ocean to serve as a backdrop for one's outfit snaps.

  2. I love the pop of colors from the sunglasses and other accessories! I do that fairly often with my outfits. That looks like such a lovely area to visit. I glanced outside after reading this post and it's overcast here. I need a trip to the ocean.

    1. Thank you Jessie! I don't see the ocean often as I live in Colorado and am landlocked most of the time, we have lovely mountains though :)
