Fleurs de Printemps

The official first day of summer is just one week away (June 20th), but the temperatures here in Colorado have already sky rocketed into the 90 degree area! Not my favorite, why couldn't we have had an actual spring please? It went straight from snow to Sahara.

I suppose I don't have much time for spring florals left, not that florals end with spring. Still, the softest of pale pink chiffons does seem best suited to the delicate pastel palettes of springtime. I found this skirt while out shopping recently rather unexpectedly, as I don't usually find clothes at TJMaxx, but I was surprised to see this lovely skirt on the rack waiting for me. It isn't my usual color palette or shape but it was so pretty I couldn't resist! Dare I say it is on the girly side for me, I have never been one for pink normally. I was happy to see I could pair the sheer forest green blouse I picked up thrifting last year with the greens in the floral pattern. Then of course I couldn't resist getting to use my new forest green vintage handbag I acquired recently too! I need to stop shopping--no seriously, I need to stop shopping.

Less shopping, more sewing, that's the plan! I have plenty of fabrics waiting to become new frocks, and it's high time I got back to working with them! I am a natural maximalist, I could never live with a capsule wardrobe for example, but I do wonder if all of you would tire of seeing me repeat things here on the blog? Also please give me your best shopping ban tips so I can learn to be frugal :)

Skirt: Catherine Malandrino (found at TJ Maxx)
Blouse: Forever 21 (thrifted)
Shoes: Topshop (circa 2009!)
Earrings & Handbag: Vintage
Hair Flower Comb: Made by me

  1. My best shopping tip ban: no synthetics. I don't even try them on. If I don't try them on, I don't fall in love with them, I don't buy them and never wear them.

I have a clothing problem as well. Half of our bedroom is my "closet". (A dresser, a corner bookshelf and two clothing racks. And a shoe rack.)

I also don't buy or keep clothing that I don't feel awesome in. I do own pjs, but my "casual clothes" are things like wrap skirts and tank tops.

Good luck -- it's hard redrawing the idea of how to shop.

    1. Oh I totally can get on the no synthetics bandwagon! My problem is actually accessories, and Etsy in general. I have actually set up a chrome extension to block Etsy now! Except I still have my shop so I'll have to work that out!

  2. And they all go so well together!

I wouldn't mind seeing you repeat things at all - goodness knows I get fed up with how often I repeat my (terribly similar to begin with) dressy outfits and could do with an example of how to do different outfits with the same pieces :P

  4. What a great find! I would give you tips, but you're clearly better at shopping than I am.

You probably have more than 200 followers, but I decided to nominate you for the Liebster Award anyway. My blog post with interview questions is here, if you'd like to answer them!

  5. That handbag is so fabulously gorgeous! I've been after a green mid-century one, truly, for many years now, and would love (!) to hit upon something similar. The closest I came was at a Salvation Army thrift store in Vancouver back in 2014. It was a dark pine green leather c. 40s bag and oh-so-lovely, however the condition left much to be desired and the price (something like $35 + tax) even more so (in a thrift store setting).

I really, really like this outfit and the beautiful, garden-y colour palette you've created here. So lovely!

    1. Thank you Jessica! It was such a great find I actually messaged the seller and asked to reserve it, the first time I had ever done that with an item before! I hope you find a good one soon <3

  6. That green is a great colour on you. The handbag is a lovely one too. I never worry about seeing repeat outfits/partial outfits on blogs. I think it helps to get different styling ideas for my own wardrobe.

  7. Lovely outfit! And I completely hear you on the TJ Maxx front. I often go their for storage solutions and other housewares, but every so often they will have a garment or two.

The blouse is fabulous, especially the color!

    1. Thanks Janey! I was just tagging along that day and then ended up finding this skirt, a new handbag, and two pairs of sunglasses! It was the TJ Maxx jackpot day for me :)
