Crimson & Gold

I used my brother's recent graduation from The University of Denver as the perfect excuse to make a crimson colored dress, as DU's colors are crimson and gold! The dress was great to wear for his graduation (where Madeleine Albright gave the commencement speech! First female secretary of state!) and I got to pair it with another recent handbag find from this past spring! This little yellow hag is real leather and so so soft! I thought it would be more of a pastel yellow and was so happily surprised when it arrived and was truly yellow!

I also paired the dress with my first Luxulite brooch! I have been dreaming of Luxulite ever since I first discovered their delicious wares a few years ago but never took the plunge and ordered anything. I finally got my hands on this black and yellow glittery cherries brooch, and another similar brooch in classic red glitter with red cherries. When they arrived in the mail it was truly like unwrapping candy the brooches and the packaging were so darn cute! I really didn't have any earrings to match either of the brooches so I messages Luxulite about setting up a custom order for earrings to match each brooch and they were a dream to work with! The earrings came out perfect and look great on their own too for work when I don't get to wear much jewelry normally (just earrings really as most everything else gets in the way while I'm sewing). I really cannot wait to add to my Luxulite collection, I have already been sorely tempted by more of their designs!

These photos were taken down on DU's campus, and wow isn't it lovely! Those students don't know how good they have it with a campus this beautiful! I hadn't really walked around the campus before, and I will definitely be back down there this year as they have great doors and areas for photos in general. I doubt they were designing the place with local bloggers in mind (back in the 1860's), but it will sure come in handy!

Oh, and happy Friday everybody :)

  3. Gorgeous outfit! I love dark reds and burgundies paired with rich, autumnal yellows like that. Such a powerfully elegant colour combination (and one that looks like the complete and total bee's knees on you).

Three huge cheers on your first Luxulite purchases. I'm beyond addicted to Katy's marvelous creations and just received my latest order a few days ago. :)

Big hugs & happy weekend wishes,

  5. I love Luxulite too, I have slowly built up a little collection of brooches and always see new things of hers that I want! Good to know about her custom made things too. This is such a classy outfit and I think it is so great that you matched the colours to the occasion. That yellow bag is just lovely. Sounds like it was a great day. Congratulations to your brother.

    1. Thanks Kate! The yellow bag has become a favorite already as the leather is super soft and it actually holds a surprising amount of stuff.

    1. Thank you Janey! Joanns offers two colors of red cotton sateen, this deep red and a brighter primary red. It is a really nice fabric to work with too, so I have used their sateens a ton recently!
