Atomic Fleck

This spider brooch has to be one of my favorites, jeweled spiders are the only reasonable kind after all. Just a quick little post today to show you all a new dress I made recently in a fun black and gold twill with a very mid-century atomic fleck print in gold. The fabric has just enough stretch to make this a very comfortable dress perfect for dressing down for day or up for evening. I've already worn it twice, once to the theater downtown (to see the stage musical version of The Wizard of Oz) and then again today to the movie theater to see Hail Caesar.

Unfortunately our lovely mild weather is about to disappear as the forecast predicts snow once again. At least I got to wear this new dress before winter started acting like, well- winter, once again.

Dress: Made by me
Jacket: My Mom's closet :)
Belt: Banana Republic
Shoes: Modcloth
Tights: Hanes
Hat, Brooch & Earrings: Vintage

  2. That brooch is fantastic! True vintage wiggle dresses have such a better cut and fit, I'm really not a fan of reproduction ones so this one is a real treat to see.
How great was Hail Caesar though? Saw it today and absolutely loved it - great costumes and an excellent story line too!

    1. Thank you Harlow! I'm glad you think the dress looks vintage, my repro must be better than mass produced repro ;) I liked Hail Caesar a lot, my mom (who I brought with me) thought it was weird and I don't think she liked it. I loved how camp it was and ridiculous, also Tilda Swinton's ensembles and hats were beautiful!

  4. I love fleck fabrics! And I can admire that brooch on you though I don't wear arachnids myself. x

    1. I totally love fleck fabrics too, though I have yet to find a real "atomic fleck" fabric yet out in the wild :) I only do sparkling faux arachnids, as I find the real ones terrifying!

  5. The brooch is really amazing! I try really hard to like spiders and to get over my fear of them and I am currently looking for a similiar brooch or embroidery to manifest this in my wardrobe :-) Lovely dress, also!

    1. Thank you Rike! I scored the brooch in a mixed lot listing on Etsy back in 2014 and feel very lucky to have such an elegant one :)

  6. May I ask, where did you find such a lovely flecked fabric?

    1. Oddly enough it was in the super discount red tag area at Joanns, that was years and years ago though. I wish I had more like it in other colors!
