Sunday Spotlight: New Vintage Patterns

I'm sure all of you follow the wonderful blog Lilacs and Lace, and if you don't you should! Laura does a great job of keeping up with the new pattern releases from the major pattern companies and some of the latest releases from Butterick certainly caught my eye! The suit pattern above is something I will definitely be giving a try this fall as I have a prince of wales tweed fabric sitting waiting to finally become a jacket. I have already made the skirt for the suit, I just haven't figured out the right jacket pattern yet, and hopefully with some modifications this new pattern might just work! Though most of the time I make my own patterns, suiting just ins't my strong suit ;)

I thought I'd include a few other vintage patterns I wish they would re-release below. What pattern is on your wishlist?

  1. Oh that first shirt pattern with the multiple collars can be found at Decades of Style (I have it but havent made it).

And the second pattern, the long Butterick gown I own an original. I have considered sending some of my originals off to Alexandra at EvaDress for her to multi-size and immortalise for all of us!

    1. It looks so intricate, I'll have to try it someday! That gown is wonderful, I may have to drape a re-creation once I get a good dress form again :)

  2. It is a bit intricate - more so the skirt since it has to be made from something slinky and I always find marking fabrics like that a royal pain in the behind.
Actually, that pattern has been one of my few legit fails - I even made a muslin which looked fine and then when I cut my vintage fabric (*sob*), since it was that spongey (but not knit) 40s rayon crepe that stretches and slinks everywhere it just got HUGE and looked terrible on me. I was so sad. Tried to salvage the bodice but it just wasn't happening. Its still in my pile of fabrics somewhere. How does anyone work with that fabric I don't know!

    1. Rayon is so nice to wear but is certainly tricky and most often just plain irritating to work with! Sounds heartbreaking! We've all has "those" projects.

  3. It would be fantastic to see more vintage patterns (re)released, I agree. Of the ones that you highlighted here, I fell especially hard for the coats/coat dresses with the dramatic lapels. Those are just stunning!

    1. I really need to buy/make a dramatic coat for this next winter so the hunt for a pattern (or designing of one perhaps) is definitely in the cards for me!

  4. Yes, it's too bad they don't re-release more vintage patterns. However, I'm glad that they re-release the ones they do. I love your pattern choices they are so lovely.
