Sunday Spotlight: Lauren Bacall's Hair

Well, it's been a little while since I cut my hair so naturally it was time. I simply woke up yesterday and thought "I think I'll cut my hair this weekend". Looking at Bacall's style above can you blame me? I cut it today to a long bob length, just a bit past shoulder length brushing the collarbones. Now I just need to figure out how to set it to achieve a bit of Lauren Bacall's sultry waves. Lucky for me there is a setting chart floating around the net for this exact set.

Time to practice my pin curls, or maybe even try out my hot rollers again now that I have a bit less hair to contend with. I am excited to be forced to do my hair for work everyday now, which goes against my lazy nature in the early morning! I used to put my hair in a bun every day for work, but it was so boring! Now I'll be forced to do something with it, which will be better in the end :)

Are there any old Hollywood stars who are your hair styling icons? I find the Hollywood glamour shots such great hair inspiration!

  1. I have a long list of Hollywood style icons...Katharine Hepburn, Carole Lombard, Jean Harlow, Grace Kelly, Marlene Dietrich, Anna May Wong...I could go on, but you get the idea! I would love to try this pincurl pattern if I grow my hair out again, Lauren Bacall is a total bad ass.

    1. All fabulous ladies I agree! I haven't tried real pin curls in forever since they take ages on my thick hair but I'll have to give it a go again soon!

  3. How exciting! I've always wildly adored her classic hairstyle and how nicely it can play in the context of both 40s and 50s looks. Fab choice for you new length/style.

    Big hugs,

  4. Looks like it will be a very lovely new do. How do you manage with the back of your hair? I am not good at even doing the front but the back totally defeats me!

    1. It depends I suppose, mostly when I'm doing vintage styles I just make sure I roll/curl everything inwards/under so that I have a hope of it smoothing into something nice. It's much easier when it's shorter like I have it now which is nice! I also have lots of mirrors so I can see what I'm doing. I promise I'll be doing hair tutorials soon!
