Nouvelle Moderne

Don't worry, I'm not going modern on you :) I love vintage style far too deeply. I do however have a day job, and it involves sitting at a sewing machine for most of the day (how lucky am I! It's awesome) so no pencil skirts and heels at work for me. It has been a change as I got used to wearing my skirts and dresses while working at Banana Republic, but now I have to be comfortable sitting all day and doing what actually are physical tasks even if they are minor ones. I have had to welcome jeans back into my wardrobe after a near year+ long break. And with jeans, I allowed myself comfy Star Wars t-shirts, and despite being a "style blogger" in many ways, I am not ashamed of my comfy Star Wars shirts! Now that the company I work for is moving into new offices (close to Joanns!) I felt I needed to step up my workwear from comfy and nerdy-- to comfy, stylish, and occasionally nerdy :)

So I plan on making a couple of midi circle skirts in stretch cotton sateen to wear with my Star Wars t-shirts, and well...I went shopping. I picked up some more denim and then I went to H&M to try and find some nicer tops for work. I was thinking of investing in one or two...but then H&M had the cutest blouses! I snapped up a bunch of perfect blouses to wear to work (and a pair of olive green pants, and a simple black dress...) including the one I'm wearing here in this post. It's not that they just had cute printed blouses, most of the prints were sorta Egyptian inspired and goodness knows I love neo-Egyptian anything so I was done for. I ended up accidentally acquiring new clothes for work in one fell swoop!

So you know the feeling when you are excited to wear your new outfit on Monday? Well I quickly decided I needed a new haircut too. Like I said in yesterday's post I woke up and wanted to cut my hair this weekend. I plan on styling it much more Bacall normally, but for day one I straightened it just to see how the cut turned out. It is essentially a rather long bob, and yes I did cut it myself! I have no fear when it comes to cutting my hair anymore! I can always get it fixed if I get it wrong. Plus since I normally wear my hair curly, a little inconsistency in the cut doesn't really show. Cutting one's own hair isn't for everybody, but it is free which is my favorite price after a spendy weekend!

I hope you all have a lovely start to the week! I am just about done reorganizing and redecorating my sewing room and I can't wait to show you the results later this week! Also, thank you so so much to all of you who subscribed to me over on YouTube! It means a ton to me and I can't wait to put up my next video :)

  1. The print is very art deco, I would not have known it was a H&M piece! I can really picture it looking fabulous with a pair of black palazzo pants too :D

  2. Your hair looks lovely straight- but then it usually looks lovely however you style it. I cannot believe you cut it yourself. Your look in these photos is so spring-like! Kx

  3. Your hair is uber chic in this straight style. Very deco era approved, with notes of the sixties at play, too. Wonderful look from head-to-toe!

    1. Thanks Kate! It works for me, but I know some people prefer the precision of a professional ;)
