The New Look

Am I looking down again in every photo? Yes. :( The midday sun was trying to bind me I assure you. Even with my wider brimmed hat, I was squinting and going snow blind. The many faceted perils of winter everyone. Though I later found out it was the one day of the year when the earth is closest to the sun in its orbit so perhaps it really was a little bit brighter out than usual!

I am always looking for reasons to wear this velvet hat of mine, so when I realized it would go well with this velvet jacket I rarely wear I was pretty pleased. I paired the two with my hounds-tooth 1/2 circle skirt for an early 50's new look inspired ensemble. This was the first outing for my new red gloves, which are just a tad snug (apparently most ladies had tiny hands! or mine are very large...) and had some slight staining on the palms that wasn't mentioned in the listing. Still, I have them a wash and in the end they really set off the red in this skirt. I acquired two other pairs of gloves over the post-Christmas sales time period and am going to incorporating them into my wardrobe a little more often, at least in winter when the temperatures really do warrant them!

I have been struggling with getting sewing done so far this year, but hopefully I will finish a deep blue and gold brocade dress I have been working on this week. I want to finish the dress before I jump into making the first of my planned skirt suits. I hope you all are having a great week back to reality after the holidays!

    1. Thank you Porcelina! The snow was blinding me on this particular day so I wasn't a fan. It can be very pretty, but not with the midday sun bounding off of it! My hats do take up quite a bit of space, one day I'd love to have a huge closet room, that't the dream!
