Burgundy and Blue

I had seen this most lovely skirt from Zara when their fall collection came out ages ago, but it was beyond my usual price range. Then when the skirt went on sale after Thanksgiving I could no longer resist and snapped it up! As you can probably tell, it is a bit tight through the hips, but I actually had to take in the waist a smidge for that true hourglass shape. I cant really decide what season this skirt fits into, the deep burgundy/brown says fall/winter and yet the colorful flowers are rather spring/summer. What do you guys think?

I paired the skirt with a blue cotton/poly blend blouse I made last spring (see it again here). As the skirt still doesn't have the most defined waist, I belted it for extra definition. I have been trying to break in these cognac leather heels for a while, but the toes still pinch quite a bit.

In in quest for retro hair I slept in foam rollers overnight and tried a honest to goodness 1940's brush out this morning. Going in sections, brushing again and again in an effort to get "Dita" hair (you know, Dita hair right? You all know what I mean). It was working well until I got too tired of brushing! I was hot and the brushing was irritating my neck underneath. It came out alright but another ten minutes of brushing would have helped to create the more even all-around smooth look. At least my S curve in front came out alright!

Its back to work this week after a wonderfully long holiday break. After all that post-holiday shopping my empty wallet and I are very happy to be back at work indeed!

  1. Really, really lovely ensemble. I agree, there are elements of both halves of the year at work here. In a way, that makes me think of March and September, months that bridge two seasons, and thus encompass elements of each, just as this beautiful skirt does.

  7. Just loving this outfit ~ all the individual elements really give a vintage look! The flowers on your skirt, the sleeves and collar on your blouse {which I'm swooning over btw! Would love to know what that pattern is!} ~ and your hair which is sooo on point! Simply stunning! ❤

    1. Thank you Bonita! Unfortunately I made the pattern for the blouse myself and therefore can't recommend one, the sleeves are bishop sleeves. They came out too short so I push them up my arms to wear them at bracelet length whenever I wear this top. Perhaps one day I will make some of my sewing patterns available somehow ;)
