Evergreen

I am already tired of the cold. I don't want the heat of summer back exactly, just if it could be around 50 degrees instead of 30 I'd be satisfied! Below freezing is just a bit too much winter for me thanks, even if the snow looks charming. Luckily this huge thick wool coat I thrifted way back in high school does keep me very warm despite the bracelet length sleeves.

This whole outfit was created around wanting to use my new brown lizard skin handbag that I bought with my Christmas money, vintage of course! I am only just now getting into vintage handbags (I've got three now...and an adorable art deco evening bag in the mail on its way to me too...). I don't know why I was ignoring such an important accessory, but now I've fallen in love with the granny bag, with that nice sharp clip clasp along the top. The brown bag photographed a bit dark here, it's more medium brown than dark chocolate. I paired the purse with a monochromatic outfit pairing of dark greens. The knit top is from Banana Republic (though several seasons ago) and the skirt you have all seen many times before. To tie in the brown I added a cognac leather belt and my brown faux fur collar over my coat. Sadly I don't currently own any brown gloves so I have black ones on, I only approve of black and brown being worn together when it is done intentionally, and this definitely was a last minute addition against the cold! Brown gloves are on my list now!

I'd love to add more coats to my wardrobe, as currently I have only two; this tan number and my more modern black coat that isn't supremely flattering. Some of you may have been around here long enough to remember this black coat too, which is my favorite thing ever except that the fur trim is real. The guilt of owning real fur means I rarely wear it even if it is gorgeous. I would love to make an identical coat without a fur collar and cuffs, as the princess hourglass shape is ridiculously amazing. Perhaps that will be a task for next winter, for now I need to get back to my suiting projects!

  1. I love the collar on your jacket! It looks so snuggling and warm, beside being super elegant. What more could you ask for? :D And yes, your new-to-you vintage handbag is lovely. A very nice find indeed! ❤

    1. Thank you Bonita! It is actually a separate collar that I threw on over the coat, which means I can wear it with other outfits which is even better :)

  2. Your skirt and top are great - I always like you in those muted shades of green - but the coat steals the show (with the bag of course) because it is truly magnificent and it looks so warm. I don't think I would want more coats if I had that one - I'd never be out of it! Kx

    1. Thank you! The coat was such a great find thrifting many many years ago, I believe I snapped it up for just $12 dollars if I remember correctly.

  3. I love granny frame bags! I'm the opposite - the first piece of vintage I ever bought was one. Oh how I'd love a coat like this, but I completely see the guilt thing. I don't own any real fur - every time I think about buying something vintage with real fur I inevitably don't for that reason... But you look wonderful, anyway x

    1. Thanks Cici! Luckily this brown fur collar is faux, but my black princess coat has the real deal fox fur collar and cuffs and thus is the guilt inducing coat. I should really just wear it as the damage is done, but I would never be so foolish as to buy fur again.

    1. I saw that London got some snow just this morning, though it doesn't look like it stuck around for long! You'll be stuck with the cold a while longer over there, but at least there are nice indoor things to do like all the marvelous museums. Over here I've got snow forecasted for the next few months, sometimes it even snows as late as early May here!

  5. Chicly sophisticated cold weather ensemble. I absolutely adore dark (pine/forest/hunter) green with equally forest worthy brown, too.

How exciting that you're growing your vintage handbag collection. Naturally, I approve 110%! :)

  7. Love your outfit! You look great. I actually don't mind real fur - but would never buy a new piece, only vintage. It's probably not better, but at least I wont' be supporting the modern fur-industry. I like fur in the respect that it is "genuine" and natural - like wool and cotton, where faux fur isn't made of natural material (as I'm aware off please correct me if I'm wrong!)
If you ever decide to sell the coat with real fur (the black) let me know ;) It is gorgeous. :)
I enjoy your blog a lot!

    1. Such an interesting point! Faux fur, being plastic, is no good for the environment true enough. I hadn't really thought of that! I wonder if anyone has ever tried making rayon faux fur? I'm so glad you enjoy the blog, thanks for stopping by! :)
