Why hello there! My name is Bianca Esposito and I am a writer, seamstress, and historic clothing enthusiast living in Denver Colorado. A long time fan of vintage fashion and costuming blogs, I started The Closet Historian blog in 2013 as a way to document my adventures in style, sewing, history, and travel. The Closet Historian has since expanded onto YouTube where I get to ramble on at length about vintage fashion and other various topics that strike my fancy.
While as a child I dreamed of becoming a painter, as a teen I discovered the world of high fashion through the pages of Vogue and suddenly my interest in all else wavered. Enamored with the work of designers like Alexander McQueen, the house of Dior, and Christian Lacroix, I ended up switching my medium from paint brushes to a needle and thread. Those earliest sewing projects led me to pursue a degree in Apparel Design & Production where I further explored just my interest in fashion and historic costume. Years later, I now design and construct the majority of my own wardrobe focusing on twentieth century vintage inspired feminine style.
While I feel fashion is in itself a form of story telling, for me, sewing is just one of the ways I love to explore the many ideas swimming in my head. As much as I enjiy creating apparel and images, writing fiction truly holds my heart ensnared above all else, and it is my dream to share my writing with a wider audience one day.
I dream of traveling the world (naturally), visiting as many museums as I can, one day finally learning to speak French (and Japanese), and publishing my long-suffering novel (s). I love getting to share my sewing projects, recreations of vintage style, travels, and other creative adventures with all of you here on The Closet Historian. Thank you for coming along for the ride!

You are rockin' that hat. I love it on you. I wear a lot of hats, but have been afraid to try the smaller ones like that.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes! Learn French! I have a collection of French fashion & sewing magazines from 1900 through the 1920's and am going to take classes so I can read the original instructions. Hopeully, in a few years I'll be able to leave Google translate alone and not end up with gibberish results.
ReplyDeleteLove your YouTube channel. You're one of the only vloggers I can stand to watch so you must be doing something right. Looking forward to watching much more and mimicking your style!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI'm really enjoying your channel too! I've been interested in vintage fashion for a long time, but I can't for the life of me seem to find any skirts in my size at a price point I can afford- how long does it take you to find a dress or skirt in the right price range and size? I'm curvy, ranging from size 14-18 and never smaller due to some curvy hips!
ReplyDeleteIf you have a video that mentions this, I'd be happy to watch it.
I am a new fan as well! Your style is so beautiful. I have been interested in this time period for a very long time, but due to my particular size, I have had to make my pieces. Not too many 1040's gals at 6' tall with a size 12 shoe! I really envy your ability to find outfits and shoes that actually fit! I also found that most vintage hats didn't fit either so I started making my own and now have a small craft business making vintage style women's hats called Effie Jane's Hats. Thank you so much for keeping the 1940's and other period alive and well!! Julie
ReplyDeleteThank you Julie! I love making hats and wish I had more time to do it more often! :)
DeleteThank you so much! Unfortunately I have yet to secure a literary agent and therefore none of my books are published currently.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy watching your videos. Purses have been a love of mine since I was 2. Folks tell me I am older than my age, but that's because I like the vintage clothing and décor. So when I found you I was so excited. Your ideas have helped me stream line some of my thrifting. Of course when it comes to jewelry or purse I cant leave them, but I am on the look out for certain items to add so that I can change up things. Thanks so much for the fun ideas. Keep them coming
ReplyDeleteHave you ever considered publishing your novels on your blog? You could do a chapter a week on a tab or something?
