One Last Summer Dress

The funny thing about having rather damaged hair you are desperately trying to keep brown with dark conditioner...is it seems to be a different color after every shower. Which is to say, I like this lighter brown I had going on this past weekend :)

This dress was the one sewing project I managed to finish in August! Wahoo! I bought this vintage fabric (no idea of the era really) off of Etsy and decided that of course I needed a multicolored chevron striped A-line dress. Naturally that meant a bit of mental gymnastics when cutting the dress out, but I think it was worth it in the end. I have a little bit of fabric left over too, so the rest may become a bolero or accents on another dress someday. I highly doubt I'll have the courage to go to a summer pride parade or anything (both because crowds are a lot, and ace spectrum folks aren't always the most welcome) anytime soon, but this would be the perfect rainbow dress to wear at least if I ever do. Plus I can pair it with white, navy, green, yellow, so many options!

I did realize halfway through cutting this out that while I could match and mirror all of the colored stripes, that the pattern on the stripes themselves was already chevroned and therefore not going to match. I'm trying to pretend that doesn't bother me mmkay? I got the center fronts and backs to match up, the shoulder seams to match, and the side seams to be on a blue stripe so I'm counting it as a pattern matching win anyway!

Anyways, it's back to writing/editing for me for the rest of the afternoon. I have a lot of revising to do on one chapter in particular and I can't wait to dig it. Ciao Ciao!

  3. This is definitely a pattern matching win. The colour scheme also reminds of the "good neighbor policy" and the effect on fashion during the war.

    1. Thank you! I hadn't heard of the good neighbor policy, but looking it up now I wish we were still focusing on being better neighbors and equal here in the US!
