Journey to Joigny

On our last full day in Burgundy we visited the lovely city of Joigny. It seems like Burgundy is full of only gorgeous historic towns suspended a perfect state of the most poetic crumbling charm. Stones worn by years certainly, but it can be hard to say just how many, merely one century or over four? The church behind me just above with the faded purple door was rebuilt in 1596 after a fire in 1530. The other church at the top of this post was constructed between 1490 and 1529. It would be so wonderful to have just a minutes glimpse of what the town looked like when these churches were new. It seems like so many lanes and views have remained just the same as they must have been then, the only difference a parked car or modern rain gutters.

I had a lovely time visiting the city, like several other places we'd visited on this trip this was my second time touring the town. We started the day perusing the different local produce and products at the large covered market, ate at a great restaurant along the Yonne river (the city is along the river), and enjoyed meeting new friends. Another full day of history, beauty, good food, and very kind people, and what more can a tourist ask for than that!

I wore my grey and black gingham dress with all white accessories to match my more sensible cushioned walking sandals. Last year when this dress first appeared on the blog I wore it with a petticoat, but the great thing about full circle skirts is that you can wear them either with a petticoat or without one and they look nice both ways! I had stopped wearing hair flowers for a while for some reason, but I made new combs with fresh white flowers just to take with me on my trip. Though my set (foam rollers) didn't turn out shaped exactly how I would have liked, flowers can make up for such things easily. Plus it's hard to care too much about your hair when you are busy admiring such beautiful places.

Now that I'm back stateside I've been working to put together some videos of my trip to share with you all, so look out for those over on my YouTube channel soon <3 I hope you all had a marvelous and relaxing weekend!
