Swirling Spring Plaid

Hmm how do we feel about such a contrast between this skirt and sweater? I feel like a lighter colored sweater or blouse would be better, but you know sometimes when you're rushing out the door there just isn't time to deliberate these things!

This skirt just screams Easter to me thanks to the yellow and pastel colors, even though I don't even celebrate Easter (I do like its associated candy however, mini cadbury eggs are the best!). I have a bit of this plaid left over too, so I may make a hat someday or use it for a collar or cuffs on something. Shame it is some sort of thermoplastic fiber, but silk taffeta wouldn't have been $4.95 in the bargain bin would it? Certainly not! Cut on the fold as a classic circle skirt, since this fabric was nice and wide there is only one seam in the center back. No side seams, no having to match plaids, which is always a relief! All the yellow meant I pulled out my yellow leather handbag and a yellow snake skin belt I picked up last year. Though I have 3 different shades of yellow gloves now, I tossed a grass green pair in my purse as I didn't want yellow overload!

This is the other of my two Jackie sweaters from Lindy Bob, the other is black and I recently added sequins to the neckline if you remember. I still am not really happy with the shape of these sweaters on me, perhaps the sleeves are a tad too long and that is what's throwing me off? If they were 3/4 sleeves I think even that would be better too. You can understand why they don't get much wear since I can't decide if I like them or not. You can't always win in the repro-vintage game I suppose!

I hope you are all having a wonderful week, I myself am feeling the pressure to finish some big sewing projects as a deadline of mine approaches! Back to it then...

  1. LOVE this outfit, I love the combination of colours together. It's nice to mix things up now and then and do something differently to what you'd normally do.

  2. I really love this outfit and the navy works quite well! I hope that fabric makes the lovely swishy scroop sound taffeta makes :-D

As for the sweater, I might be able to help pin down why you don't like it so much as I have had this problem before too. It is when the sleeve reaches the exact same length as your waist - so when you have your arms by your sides, your entire bodice and upper arms are all one visual block which makes for odd proportions. It might be okay in a dress or something else where you are wearing one colour or print all over but when it's separates it gives that impression. Anything a bit shorter or a bit longer would break this illusion.

    1. Thank you! The taffeta definitely still makes the scroopy sound :) I too think the sleeve length is the problem, it's just not right proportionally!

  3. I think the top and skirt work well. Such lovely colours - and you're right, they say not just spring but more specifically Easter! Kx

    1. Thank you! I'll have to fix this sweater somehow so I can wear it more often!

  4. I think the dark blue works quite well because of your coordinating shoes. If you had yellow or light coloured shoes, I think it could have been overwhelming for the skirt- but as you styled it- I like it :)

    1. Thanks Nicole! I tried to balance the look with the navy shoes so I'm glad you noted that :)

  5. I was just thinking I'd never have paired a navy sweater with the skirt because I'm too timid, but you've shown me it works. So I guess it gets the thumbs up from me.

That yellow bag is made of WIN.

    1. Thanks Mim! I'm still not fully convinced, but I think that's due to the shape of the sweater not the color, so I'm calling this color pairing a win! I looove this yellow bag. It's better quality than some of my other vintage bags, which was a lovely surprise as it wasn't any more expensive or anything <3

    1. Thanks Janey! I love yellow though it doesn't always work with my skin, I need to add more of it to my closet!
