Forbidden Fig

It is a very rare occurrence you could find me in a church, but as an art lover the older a building is, the more likely I will want to visit. This particular chapel, though very traditional in style (built in 1878), has no official religious affiliation and is located on the campus of the University of Denver. I may not be religious (like at all, I'd write about it more if it wasn't so oddly controversial) but I do love some stained glass and gothic architecture!

Some of you will recognize my cardigan here as it is one of the now very popular Emmy Design Sweden's ice skater cardigans. I knew I wanted to splurge on one of Emmy Design's cardigan's for Christmas and had originally planned on getting the black cardigan but I ended up getting the color called fig instead. There was some serious postal service (I assume the US postal service) issues and it seems the first cardigan they sent was lost. I contacted Emmy Design and they had the most wonderful customer service and kindly (and quite generously) re-sent my order, the very last fig colored cardigan left in my size. When it finally arrived I immediately noted the quality of the cardigan and finally knew just why they are so popular. I know the other colorways of this cardigan will be on my mental wishlist moving forward! The fit (I chose size 42/44) is perfect, and the short length and waist shaping work wonderfully with skirts. The fig color is somewhere between a dusty wine and a warmer burgundy, and though the black may have been even more versitile, I'm happy I chose a color as it shows off the pretty cable knit pattern really well.

For its first wearing, I paired the cardigan with a warm blue silk blouse that leans really lavender once paired with the fig shade. My dark grey flounce skirt added a dose of neutral to the purply palette, but I am most excited to pair this sweater with warm fall colors next autumn.

This won't be the last gothic architecture you see featured here this year, I have a very exciting trip coming up this spring which I will divulge soon ;) I hope you all have had a marvelous Monday!

  1. As a similarly non-religious person, I would give my eye teeth to shoot in some of the beautiful old churches here in Chicago. Some of them are just jaw dropping. There's a hint of "naughty nun" (if you don't mind me saying so!) to these photos, which I'm really digging! I love the first shot, the light is really beautiful.

    1. Thanks Jessica! I'm sure Chicago must have some seriously gorgeous buildings, I'd love to visit all the old art deco lobbys! The lighting was much better in the chapel than outside it which luckily worked out great :)

  2. What a gorgeous setting for your photos, truly gorgeous - and somehow the colours, especially from the stained glass, really set off the lovely colours of your outfit! Kx

    1. Thank you! I love light from stained glass, especially if it creates little colored patterns on the floor inside, so pretty!

  3. Yes yes yes that cardigan is ridiculously amazing I second that! I think they shouldn't bother making other things and should just make cardigans - controversial? HAHAHA!

  5. I've had my eye on these cardigans for a while, I really like the look of the knitwear that Emmy do. I am also not religious but do appreciate churches as beautiful buildings and I love a good, vibrant stained glass window. Super outfit.

    1. They are very nice cardigans but also very pricey cardigans! Lucky you can knit so well you could make your own! It's harder to find beautiful old buildings over here in the US, I much prefer the history on your side of the world <3
