Red and Roses

I recently wrote about needing to fix my bolero cropped jacket sewing pattern, and towards that end I made some fixes to my basic bodice pattern including what is known as a full bust adjustment resulting in a new and improved pattern. The muslin fit perfectly, so I cut out my new pattern in left over red cotton sateen to make a top to match my red circle skirt (so that when worn together they would look like a dress). I spent a whole day fixing the pattern, I spent another whole day making the red top, and in the end...it fit horribly and I wore this floral blouse instead.

Ah sewing, thou art an occasionally unforgiving fiend. I'll have to get back to the pattern and see what went wrong, the muslin really did fit well!

Though I had originally been dreaming of a different ensemble, I still really loved wearing this outfit as it turned out. This floral blouse is one of my favorites, I need to make some more like it! It was quite mild out so I merely carried my faux fur muff to keep my hands warm. I need a full skirted princess coat to wear over things when I have a petticoat on! The rayon corde clutch handbag is a newer addition to my wardrobe (and the hat is still a bit new too)  unlike everything else I have on here which are older standbys. This location too is an oft seen spot here on the blog, especially in winter when the rest of the world is leafless and tan. I am just so lucky to have a convenient local historic house, and it makes taking photos on the way home from a run to Target ever so easy! sorry if you are tired of seeing the same stone house again and again ;)

It's back to work for me today, I hope the rest of you got one more day off to ready yourself for jumping into 2017. I still have yet to settle down for a goal setting and planning session for the year ahead, but I am looking forward to doing so soon as I am very list oriented! Happy New Year everyone! <3

  1. Interesting....sometimes I find that I made adjustments to the muslin and forgot to make notes of it on the pattern, wonder if that's what happened. Lovely outfit nonetheless (as always)

    1. Thank you! I'm not sure if I made the top a bit too big by improperly placing the buttons/button holes in the back, or if I was pinning the back of the muslin tighter so it looked better, or what was really going on! I might try the FBA with less fullness (from 1 inch added down to 1/2 inch). I still need to play with it some more for sure!

  2. What a pity about your project, but I think the floral blouse works beautifully here! I love the little muff, and that clutch is really lovely. I'd definitely be pulling that out any time I wanted to dress up a little for a night out or something.

  4. Love that skirt twirling photo. The clutch is a fabulous find. It is a shame about the top pattern but this floral top is so very pretty.
