Holloway Road

Way back in 2012 I studied abroad in London England. Anyone who knows me is aware of this, because I never shut up about how much I love London, it is my favorite city! Oddly enough my student housing was on Holloway road, the very same Holloway road where the well known reproduction vintage brand Vivien of Holloway has their store front! I used to walk by the shop daily on my way to and from the tube station, but sadly as a student I didn't quite have the funds to do any shopping inside. I did venture in once and bought two net snoods, but hair accessories were all I could afford to splurge on back then.

Fast forward several years and I finally was able to spring for some real Vivien of Holloway! I recently picked up this wonderful plaid circle skirt and several of their famous slash neck knit tops. I do wish to apologize as these photos aren't the best (some weird lighting and lots of strange file compression/pixelation going on), but I just had to share this outfit with you all as it was such fun to wear. I almost think I might prefer two petticoats under this skirt, as looking at these photos makes me think one just wasn't enough! The skirt is nice and long, to the point where my Malco Modes Samantha petti (which is one of their longer options) is almost too short to wear with it. The green in the plaid and the green of the knit top match perfectly which made styling a snap. I pinned on my new spider brooch from Luxulite (another UK brand) too, isn't he cute?

My hair just did not want to cooperate into a 1950s style so I pinned it into a poodle and decided to be okay with more 40's hair with a 50's outfit. Sometime curls just have a mind of their own. I have to get back to my sewing now, but I hope you are all having a great last week of 2016!

    1. Thanks Porcelina! The skirt is quite nice, though a bit static-y from the polyester. Still a nice weight and good longer length though!

  2. Such fabulous colours, as always - although the brooch freaks me out, just a little bit! Happy New Year! Kx

  3. These colours are just lovely together and really suit you. I have one of their plaid skirts and really like wearing it. What do you think of the jersey top? How is the fit? Is it worth the money? They have such a great range of colours so I am thinking about getting one or two.

    1. Thank you Kate-Em! I'll do a full review of the slash neck tops soon, but one thing I noticed right away is that I had to slip stitch the neckline in about an inch on each side so my bra straps wouldn't show. An easy fix but still necessary before I could wear the top. The fabric is a nice weight, definitely not too thin. The fit is wider through the waist than I would perhaps like, as I will mostly be wearing these tucked in with skirts, but it was nice when I wore the top with jeans later in the week so I guess now I've seen the versatility I don't mind. Worth the money is harder because I normally wouldn't pay that much for a knit top, and I had to pay for overseas shipping too so ehhh, yes? They are on the pricey side for sure, hopefully they will be still be nice after multiple washings.
