Sunday Spotlight: Gingham

Gingham, that simple woven check of summer dreams. I have but one gingham dress in my closet, and seeing as it is so lonely...I have two new ones planned! One in a smaller check in brown and white that will be rather early 40s inspired, the other in a larger check in dark green and white which will be more 50s in style. After all, gingham can be styled oh so many ways and is the perfect textile for summer time, so I ought to have more of it right? Plus gingham fabric tends to be quite inexpensive too which is a nice bonus! I hope I can start on my new dresses soon, but I still have the Edwardian skirt to finish!

  1. Gingham makes me instantly think of summer picnics. While I love it and have some gingham fabric in my stash I have yet to make anything with it, I need to rectify this soon. Thanks for sharing these lovely pics.

  2. Gingham is the fabric equivalent to a national anthem for summer, if you ask me. Fabulous round of images starring this timeless fabric. I especially adore the B&W 40s snap of the two young women together.

    Big hugs,

    1. I totally agree! I love how casually those two ladies hair is done, just pulled back, no curls or fancy stuff going on, like they went swimming earlier and had just slicked it back without a care in the world.

  3. I have nothing at all in gingham! What a terrible error! I would happily take all of these, especially the whirling sundress and matching duster.
