DIY Faux Furr Muff

Now I know, muffs aren't exactly a modern accessory, but perhaps they should be! Who threw away the muff? Gloves can only keep a gal so warm, the addition of a muff is even better! Plus they are just cute :)

For the last in my recent trio of faux fur DIYs, I have a few tips on how to throw together a fuzzy faux fur muff of your own.

You will need:
- A piece of faux fur (mine is around 18" by 26")
- Lining fabric (I actually used wool for even more warmth
- Needle and thread
- Thin batting (optional)

I based the size of the muff on the piece of faux fur I had left after making my collar and hat. I ended up with a rectangle about 26 inches by 18 inches. Cut out the lining 1 inch thinner (26" by 16") so that the fur will wrap around the edge just a bit on the finished muff.

I decided to make this muff extra insulated by lining it in wool felt and adding a thin layer of batting inside. Between the faux fur and these other thick materials my machine was not very happy sewing through all the layers! Make sure you use a needle made for thick fabrics.

Pin the long sides (right side) together and sew the edges. If you add batting like I did make sure you have that on the outside with the batting and the fur sandwiching the lining.

After turning everything right side out, pin the fur layer together and sew.

To close up the lining, slip stitch the seam together by hand.

Just like that it's finished! Enjoy your new fancy hand warmer :)

Thus concludes my little series of faux fur tutorials! I really like my new set of fur accessories and feel like they add just the right touch of glamour to winter (which in my opinion can be a bit dull, too cold!). I hope some of you try one of these DIYs next time you spy some pretty faux fur!

    1. Oh yeah San Diego and Colorado have very different climates, it was an adjustment when my family moved here from SD ten years ago! Now I get all the seasons!
