Winds From the East

 This outfit, though worn here in what must be close to the middle of the United States, actually has a few ties to the East so very far away. My dearest friend Gina brought back the copper orange brocade fabric (that I made into a pencil skirt, naturally) from India for me. I just finished sewing the skirt this week actually, so glad to be sewing again! The beetle brooch is from Thailand and features real electra beetle wings in all their iridescent glory. I really hate insects usually, I fear them more than snakes or sharks or anything else really. In jewelry form however, my fear disappears and my magpie tendency takes over. I decided my few pieces from the far away East should come together in one outfit and I think they go together wonderfully.

Behind the suburban housing developments where my parents live (my current abode), is a rather large area of "open space" as we call it. There are walking/biking trails and rather spectacular views if you go up into the hills a bit. It really is a beautiful little space, strange to think that until about ten years ago the whole area would have looked just like this. I am glad they left at least a piece of the natural habitat around for the now thousands of residents to enjoy. It certainly made a nice back drop for outfit photos so I expect you will see more of it in the future!
