Sun Flowers and Circle Skirts

I promise this is the last gingham project of mine for the year! I must move onto more autumn hued sewing projects, and gingham seems so decidedly summery doesn't it? I was inspired by a smocked blouse in the 1943 Ward's catalog I have, but since I have never done smocking before I just have the neckline gathered here. I have been really slacking with making separates this summer!

Though a classic black and white check like this one seems to match everything, I went for the easy pairing and wore it with my black sateen circle skirt. I leaned on my pink gloves and fun Luxulite jewelry set to provide some color. It seems like I have been wearing my petticoats a lot lately, but circle skirts are just so fun with or without the extra floof of a petticoat. I need to make a few circle skirts in more fall/winter appropriate fabrics as the ones I have all seem more suited to summer. My planing for fall sewing projects is already in full swing, and I's sure I'll be sharing my plans with you here on the blog soon :) I already have a bunch of pretty fabrics ready to become fall frocks.

I meant to get a lot of editing/writing done this past weekend, but I ended up working on photos and starting on a new dress instead. I procrastinate creative endeavors by working on different creative endeavors! At least I get something done that way, even if it wasn't the work I intended to! Hopefully I can find some focus and get some serious editing work done on my books soon though, I am way over my own self-set deadlines already after all. I hope you all had a good weekend and a reasonable Monday, darn that Monday morning feel!

  1. Lovely look! There are only so many ginghamy days left, so you might as well make the most of them while you can. This neckline is fabulous - I love the way the gathers work with the pattern.
