Woodland Light

Shifting sun and towering trees, the best ingredients for inconsistent lighting! Why such crazy exposure in the trees? So bright it gives that high instagram filter=flawless skin look ha! I'll take it :)

I first blogged about this dress when I wore it to Disneyland earlier this year. Unfortunately I had to conclude after several minutes of ironing that this fabric just likes to crease :( This time I paired it with red accessories including my ginormous red straw hat! This hat has got to be one of my best bargain finds yet this year. I am wearing two new-to-the-blog items too, this amazing brooch and some great new Bait heels I picked up recently from Royal Vintage shoes. I cant seem to decide on a vice lately, hats or shoes?

These cheery red sandal pumps from Bait are quite comfortable due to their nice sturdy heel. I was a bit afraid to order my normal size (10) as my last pair of Bait heels were much too big and had to be returned for a size down. I inquired about the sizing via facebook message to Royal Vintage Shoes and they got back to me quickly with great guidance! I ordered the 10 and they fit perfectly. I really love Royal Vintage (and American Duchess shoes too) as every pair I have ever purchased are great quality, ship quickly, and their customer service is excellent. I'm not a partner of theirs by the way, I just really appreciate a super shoe shop!

It's back to the sewing room for me shortly, though I've been having a busy work week and would rather be sleeping! My next gingham dress isn't going to sew itself though...

Dress: Made by me
Shoes: Bait Footwear (Royal Vintage)
Handbag, Scarf, Hat, Belt, Jewelry: Vintage

  2. What an incredible outfit! Red + brown is magic together, IMO. It's a combo I reach for fairly often myself, especially during the late summer straight on through to Christmas, often weaving gold and/or mustard yellow into the mix. I adore everything about this stylish look, your super darling bird brooch very much included.

    1. Thank you Jessica! I am so glad to have finally added brown back into my wardrobe after a long hiatus, now I'm on the hunt for a dark brown 40s suit for this fall/winter.

    1. Thanks Janey! The brooch was a must buy for me, I was saving up for it and so afraid someone else would snatch it up before I got the chance!

  4. I love love love that hat! And I have a question about Bait shoes...I wear a 10 as well. My feet are on the wide side however. Would you say they run narrow or wide?

    1. Thank you! I have very averagely wide feet and these fit me perfectly so I'd say they are pretty average, I doubt that's very helpful I'm sorry!

    1. Thank you Bonita! The key to the curls I have here is a small (1/2") barrel curling iron, but then you yourself have natural curls already you lucky gal!

  7. Perfect lighting indeed, wonderful photos! I love your hair in these. Always so chic and 'done'. And those shoes...! Sigh. I need some red non-suede heels but am yet to find the 'perfect pair'. The hunt continues... x

    1. Thank you Porcelina! It is irritating to curl my hair with irons in the summer as it's so hot a process but the results are still worth it in the end :) I only had suede heels for solid red shoes until I picked up this bait pair so I know just what you mean!

  9. Somehow I missed this post earlier. Love this dress paired with red! I really adore the neckline of the dress too. :) I also ordered those red shoes from Royal Vintage and have been very happy with them. Surprised at how comfortable they are give the higher heel.
Any tips on how you styled your hair for this post? I think my hair is a little longer than yours but I'm always looking for new ideas for what to do with it.

    1. Thank you Emily! They really are quite comfortable shoes, always a nice surprise! As for my hair, it's cut in a straight bob currently and I curl everything (in sections but only because I have rather thick hair) with a 1/2 inch barrel curling iron (mine is from the brand hot tools as I think there just the best!) and curl everything by rolling the hair down/under. I try to use a "setting pattern" even when I use a curling iron for the most authentic-without-a-wet-set results! I also will curl the front sections first and clip them up like standing pin curls and let them cool while I curl the back of my hair. I really need to finally make some hair tutorials ;)

    2. Thanks for the tips! I cut my hair a little shorter this spring, just past my shoulders, in the classic U shape. I opted not to do layers because I knew I would not want to style it all the time. I'm do for another trim and think I'm going to stick with the U shape. I try using a setting pattern when I do pin curls but by the time I get to the back of my head pin them how ever they will stay. :)

    3. I hear you on the pin curls! They are so time consuming unless you have them "down" after lots of practice, and even then my hair is so thick and dries slowly so I fear it will never be the technique for me no matter how much more accurate it would be!
