Snow Season

When the temperatures have dropped one simply must pull on a thick flannel skirt, it's a blanket you can wear after all! This plaid skirt I made earlier this fall will have a firm place in my winter wardrobe too (see its debut in this post), as it is both very soft and rather warm. This time I paired it with a red sweater, that's the best part about plaids after all, you can pull any color out of them to make an outfit!

I slept with curlers in with full intention of brushing out my hair into a more 40's set, but as usual it didn't want to behave. I have the opposite problem of post people attempting vintage sets, my hair takes the curl way too well, and now that it's so long brushing it out into anything 40's looking just isn't happening. I decided to try and go for something more poodle-esk and pile it all on top of my head and hide any sins with roses. It worked for the most part, though I really should just get a haircut! It is getting so long now, I just want to try and make it to the new year. I could loose about four inches from the ends and still have relatively long hair at this point. Hmm now I'm thinking I might cut it tonight...goodness :P

I have been working a ton this week, but tomorrow will be a sewing day! I feel like I haven't even seen my sewing room in ages, let alone got any work done! So much to do and yet so little time!

  1. I am not sure I could quite make a skirt like this work on me, but wow it looks good on you - I especially like the first photo! And even if your hair didn't do what you wanted, it looks pretty damn good to me... Kx

    1. Thank you! I didn't used to wear full skirts, being a pencil skirt devotee, but I have more recently begun introducing circle skirts into my wardrobe. They are much more wearable than other styles of full skit as there isn't the bulk of gathers or pleats at the waist area.

  2. Beautiful photographs! That last one is a stunner in particular. I love a thick skirt when the temperature drops, I have my eye on a few new repro ones. Love the hair flowers also xx

    1. Thank you Porcelina! My hair was a bit lopsided so I piled on the roses, hair flowers hide many sins :)

  4. Gorgeous outfit and photos - and, majorly, hair! I love this elegant upswept do on you and think it compliments that classic 50s silhouette at work here splendidly.

    1. Thank you Jessica! I went for the full poodle :) I think I'll try a different method next time, and now my hair is shorter it will be more manageable finally!

  5. The outfit is stunning ~ you know I can't resist a great tartan, but your hair! It really steals the show for me and all I can say is #hairgoals. For real. :D ❤

  6. This is such a gorgeous skirt. I have my eye on a similar one from Lindy Bop but how nice to be able to make one. It looks great against the snow, a perfect winter outfit.

    1. Thank you Kate! I must add that circle skirts like this one are actually quite simple to make (no darts, only 3 pieces and a waistband) and there are a ton of good tutorials online, but I definitely understand the allure of simply pulling one out of a bag ready to wear!

  7. I enjoy your blog very much. The circle skirt looks wonderful on you. I have rather a short torso so I wonder if it would look on me?

    1. Thank you so much Mimi! I don't have the longest torso myself, and I have to be careful with fuller skirts because of it! I think circle skirts are better than other styles of full skirts due to the lack of bulk at the waistband.
