Northern Red Oak

Aw look, the time before the snow had fallen, such memories! Now the world outside is carpeted in white, but just last Saturday everything still looked perfectly autumnal out. I wore this little outfit while I was out running errands with my mom around town. It was a bit hard to get photos is the rather bright midday light, but elsewhere this seemingly nondescript outfit got me a lot of attention! It was almost comical how many compliments I received for this look while we were out, thank you for the confidence boost fellow townsfolk! I think it was the combination of the velvet hat and the fluted skirt, it just sorta screams vintage.

I made this taupe/grey bow blouse in my recent bow blouse sewing binge. I can't decide if the fabric is silk or rayon (I haven't tested it), I picked it up for just $4 a yard in the discount area of my favorite shop. It is perfectly flowy and will match almost all of my skirts so it was a good buy at less than the price of a grande at Starbucks. For its first outing I paired it with my grey fluted pencil skirt and red and black accessories. I just love this little rose brooch I picked up at a street market a few years ago, it is one of my favorites!

Now that the snow has fallen, I'll be missing the last of these fine fall days! Time to turn to more warm and wintry fashions for the rest of the year :)

  1. That is a PERFECT blouse! What pattern did you use?

    1. Thank you Emileigh! Sadly I made the pattern myself so I don't have one to recommend. I traced my basic shirt block pattern and then added ease through the waist so I didn't have to make button holes in this silky fabric, then I added the bow (just a long straight strip of fabric folded over) at the neckline and used my bishop sleeve pattern! I'm sorry I can't be of more help!

  2. Such a lovely blouse and I really like the two greys paired together. The brooch and shoes are just the right hint of colour. Great photo location too, those leaves against the blue sky are very pretty.

    1. Thank you Kate! I wish we still had fall leaves now, everything been frosted of snow now and isn't colorful anymore!

  3. Same here!!! I'm almost a little melancholy to see my (our) favourite season vanish like the last maple leaf whipped up and off in the wind. Thankfully we were both able to get in some stellar outfit shoots while it was still here, including the elegant gem that you shared with us here. I adore the grey blouse + warm pink rose brooch. Gorgeous styling!

    1. Aw well thanks Jessica! I am so sorry to bid farewell brief autumn already, I don't want to pack away my autumnal accessories yet! I think I'll be rocking my fall leaves for just a bit longer even if the real things have already fallen away.

  4. You look so incredibly glamorous, like always :-) We had the first little bit of snow here as well but it was more slush than anything else so I guess autumn is not over here yet. It looks not quite as pretty as in your photos though, there are barely any leaves left on the trees...
