Metamorphosis

A 1920's shaped dress, in a riotous colorful modern print, worn with the hair down and a 60's brooch? Why not! Talk about mixing eras! I love how Miss Fisher, of Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries, wears large brooches at the shoulder of her dresses sometimes, so I thought I'd try the look out for myself! I just love wearing this dress, there is something so fun about the amount of fabric in the handkerchief hem and the bright colors in the feather print.

I rarely wear anything this colorful, and I think the dress pairs well with my new shining silver shoes from Zara. I bought them for under $20 on sale, sadly I can't give you the link as they are no longer available! It was a bit of a headache getting these as they first sent me a backpack by mistake. After a long back and forth, the correct shoes finally arrived and thank goodness they fit! I think they will be great for evening and I only wish they had made them in gold too.

You can probably tell I had a bit of fun with my eye make-up today. On the daily I do my usual nude eye-shadow and winged black eyeliner, but I miss playing with my many colorful eye-shadows. This look is achieved with a few Colour Pop eye-shadows and an electric blue liquid liner (NYX) with iridescent powder tapped on top. The iridescent white/sheer powder eye-shadow is from a brand called Jesse's Girl I found at Walgreen's a few years ago. Now that my hair has grown so long I am enjoying wearing it down in loose curls like this. I really need to get it cut if I want to wear it in more "set" 40's styles, but I think I will wait till next spring and enjoy having the extra length this fall/winter.

I should be sewing, but I'm having a lazy day instead! Sometimes you need a lazy day you know? :)

  2. Stunning! I love the movement of your dress in these photos, and the colours just make it even more eye-catching!

I forgot to ask you before, but what is your novel about? (if you don't mind me being nosey - I'm writing a novel at the moment too, so I'm curious) :D

    1. Thanks Ellie! It is definitely a dress fully of movement, it was rather windy this day too which added to the effect!

I get rather embarrassed talking about my book, isn't that odd? I guess it's just the fear that it may not be any good, which is every writer's fear I suspect! It is about a girl named Christine in Victorian London, I suppose it would be considered paranormal historical fiction? -ish? I'm trying to go for a Dracula meets Downton Abbey sorta feel, who knows if I have succeeded! Perhaps I'll do a whole post about writing soon :)

    2. I know how you feel - whenever I tell people I'm writing my book and they ask me what it's about, my first thought is "oh, poop". XD
Wow, your book sounds really interesting! I'd love to read it sometime, being a fan of all the things you mentioned. :D

    1. Thank you! I definitely paid for all that eye make-up later, as my eyes were rather irritated by the end of the day!

  4. Gorgeous look! I love playing around with my style and mashing up stuff to make an entirely different look. I paired some cowboy boots with a 40's style skirt the other day ~ now that was fun! :) The bold colors and fluttery hem of your dress are really pretty though, this looks lovely on you Bianca. ❤

  6. Oo I love a vintage-era mash-up! I'm a bit obsessed with Miss Fisher, sigh. I think I'll be channeling her come Autumn, I have a few kimono type tops I want to wear with wide trousers. You look fab! It must have been fun taking these pics xx

    1. Thanks Porcelina! I don't know how anyone could not be obsessed with Miss Fisher, she's so awesome and stylish too! It was definitely fun taking these pictures, there were two gardeners I was a bit afraid would try and stop us from tramping through the bushes but they didn't even seem to notice us!
