Dressing Down, Casual Wear

In case anyone has been wondering what I wear at my most casual, today's outfit is for you! Mostly I live in large scarves like this one when I am just throwing on clothes to run errands or want to be comfortable on a plane flight. I do wear jeans every so often too, but most days I genuinely can be found in a dress or pencil skirt. Pencil skirts are my version of jeans! I can make a pencil skirt work for any and all occasions.

This stretchy black dress is obviously very comfortable and casual too; I picked it up at H&M years ago while living in London. The ankle boots (which are my constant casual shoe choice this winter) are also from H&M, though from last year. They have been a bit abused as I wear them so often. The scarf I am wearing in these photos is one of my all time favorite scarves (which is saying a lot because I am a scarf hoarder). It was a gift from one of my dear friends in college and is from India. The colors match everything, but more importantly is is huge and soft.

Yes this is my casual hairstyle, I always think it is so funny that I get so many comments on my hair when I am out, or am at work, with my hair in braids. People are always astonished that I braid it myself, it isn't hard people! This is my easy, get-out-my-way hairstyle. I consider this much easier than going through the effort of curling or straightening my hair. I just put some braids in it and about a hundred bobby pins so I don't have to worry about it for the rest of the day.

I am excited to say I will have a new nail art tutorial for you all tomorrow, so come back and see me again!

  1. Great look! I'm with you completely when it comes to pencil skirts being your jeans. They, along with a few neutral hued a-line skirts and shirtwaist dresses in solid colours, are my jeans, too (baring at the dog park, where genuine vintage almost always stays home and safe from energetic paws and tons of dirt/dust).

    1. Thanks Jessica! I totally agree, I am in the planing stages of adding some neutral circle skirts into my wardrobe too, more basics!

  2. You are wrong! It is hard! I somehow can't make my brain work that way on my own hair :( Maybe I just need more practise.

I love your casual look, even though for me this would be a dressy look :) The scarf is just the perfect highlight for the black ensemble.

    1. Thank you Tanith! And I'm sorry about braids! There are several braids I cannot do on my own hair; I dream of being able to put my hair into a crown braid for example, but that is one my brain certainly can't figure out!
