Asymmetric

Asymmetry. In my hem, in my bob, in my brain?

I've just been feeling a little off, and I'm sure it will pass. I haven't really taken much of a real break over this holiday, even though that was what I was preaching to everybody else. Instead I set myself a big video challenge to work extra hard over the mix of days between the end of 2018 and the start of 2019...and now I'm sorta exhausted. Oops!

And my bob could use a trim (and a freaking color job eh? Look at that unintentional ombré). I've been playing with make-up a lot more than usual lately, and I think I'd like to be less strict with myself moving forward when it comes to wearing fun colorful make-up with vintage style. I always figure people want to see more accurate looks, but I should be focusing more on what I'd like to wear and less on what anyone else may or may not want to see of course. So I have fallen into the world of eye shadow headfirst. It's just more fun that way, not that I could ever leave my plain cat-eye liner alone forever!

I'm going to be taking it a bit easier (on myself that is) for the next few days, and hopefully hitting the salon too. What self care rituals get you through the new year blues? Asking for a friend ;)

Outfit details: Dress & faux wrap made by me, Shoes from American Duchess (but no longer available), Jewelry is vintage, Clutch from Charming Charlie, Fishnets from Amazon

  1. That dress looks so good - there's a hint of Addams Family about it, but I say that as someone who ADORES the Addams Family.

Self-care? I've resolved to have social-media-free Sundays in 2019. Blogs don't count, but the faster forms (Twitter and Discord) are OUT. Going to give myself time to wind down and think.

    1. Thank you Mim! I am always happy to look a bit Addams! Social media free days is such a good idea, I never posted on twitter much when I was active, I just read it, but then I realized it only really made me feel sad so I deleted it off my phone a few years ago. Time to think and time to be "bored" even are more important than we give credit for I think...

  2. First, you look STUNNING!!! Those shoes are beyond dreamy, and I'm livid I never got a pair!

Second, the words you have to say here I am feeling soooo strongly. The last few months of last year were exceptionally draining, and this year I've been having a hard time finding a good new stride. I've been frustrated far too many times for only being in the second week of the year! Also, "I always figure people want to see more accurate looks, but I should be focusing more on what I'd like to wear and less on what anyone else may or may not want to see of course." THIS. Seriously. Yes. I've been in this battle had chose to focus on what makes me happy and what makes me feel good, and I personally LOVE seeing people expand and change and work their personal style into the world of vintage.

    Happy New Year!

    1. Thank you Janey!

Finding a stride as you put it is something I totally gave up on in early 2018 last winter, and the only way out of a rather dim period was diving headfirst and 110% into my writing last year which got me through the rest of 2018 too really. This year I'm feeling a bit better this Jan, and am hoping to make some more concrete plans, but also not beat myself up if they don't work out. Ahhh the constant struggle of balance!

      Happy New Year!

  3. This whole outfit is amazing but THOSE SHOES. WHOA. I adore them!
And, I feel you on needing a break. I took a 2 week social media posting break and it was just what I needed to re energize.

    1. Thank you Kristina! A 2 week break sounds amazing! I would love to get lots of stuff ready/prepped before hand and then take a real break like that, were I don't even check anything once, like an internet detox. Perhaps later in the year :)

  4. That first shot is a sexy one, you look so powerful. I love the make-up too.

Self-care starts with the basics for me - enough sleep, cooking from scratch, and exercise, exercise, exercise! I am hoping to slooow down a bit this year and not feel the need to hurtle along at 100mph.xx

    1. Thank you! I can never decide if the more 'editorial' poses look powerful or just silly ;) I really need to get moving this year, I'd love to get to a place where I could even do some strength training, but right now I have a black belt in sitting!
